and also that Bush actually made the right decision although maybe not carried out in the most effective way, but probably prevented an all out war and kept it isolated in the middle east

jeremiah epitomizes my point, he gave absolutely no reason for his point of view. he isnt the reason everyone is our enemy. everyone hates our free way of life and that has been the case for our nation's history

by the way, im only 16 and i aspire to live in a war free world mostly so i can parent kids in that world but the only way to achieve peace is to fight this war. this war is like an antibiotic. we need to totally fight off the enemy and rebulid the battlegrounds so it is inadequate for the recruiting of terrorism. i like to read different newspapers to get different views as i feel many are horribley biased like the New York Times. i am asking this question as my parents did not have a good enough answer for me and yet most people in this category are very biased themselves (ill admit that i am too). but its senseless to view this war as a mistake. i wish people against bush and is decisions could have seen what would have happened if Kerry kept the troops home and let Al Qaeda grow without intrusion. it is very easy to be a monday morning quarterback

of course people dying is a bad thing but the troops going over to Iraq know that they are putting their lives in God's hands to protect the world from terrorism and i have the utmost respect for them. i have a teacher in my high school who fought in Iraq and he killed many terrorists, he came back now hating the idea of any type of killing but now believes that the war is 100% necessary as he said he took his free way of life for granted and realized that by traveling through the desolate streets of the Middle East
thank you all for answering

In war, people die. People dying is a bad thing. Therefore, at least on some level, war is bad (or, at least, causes some bad results). That's as simple as I can state it. Perhaps war is justified in some cases, but still bad. That's why I am anti-war, in general, and against this war specifically. What part of that is "ignorant"? Ignorant means lacking information or being uninformed. I would argue that contrasting the war in Iraq with an "all out war" is ignorant of the fact that we are in an all out war...in Iraq. Also, your attack on "anti-war people" is ignorant of the fact that people can have differing viewoints without either of them being "wrong" (or "right" for that matter).
I stated that people dying is a bad thing. I wanted to repeat that: People dying is a bad thing. Notwithstanding your additional comments that suggest you believe the deaths of US service men & women are not bad because they die for some cause, people dying in war is, indeed, a bad thing. And remember, there are countless Iraqis dying in this conflict as well. To give no weight to the value of these lives is to be ignorant of the fact that they too are human (no more OR LESS so than you).
In the face of the growing evidence that your question itself is replete with ignorance (an irony I'm enjoying), I recommend you step away from the internet, take a deep breath and begin to enjoy the relative peace you take for granted in your own life. If only the whole world were so lucky.
Peace.
Addendum:
** #1 ** Before the war, Al Qaeda was in Afghanistan & Pakistan with some influences in other areas of the middle east. Our attack on Iraq simply set our troops up as targets for terrorist sympathisers, who THEN came to Iraq to shoot at them. Iraq was NOT a terrorist state prior to the war. OUR PRESENCE in Iraq drew the terrorists there.
** #2 ** Al Qaeda, the people responsible for the worst outside attack on US soil in history, were being fought in Afghanistan, and were on the run. Because we have commited so many of our forces to Iraq, AL QAEDA HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO INCREASE THEIR STRENGTH BACK TO PRE-9/11 LEVELS, according to recent government reports. So, we are NOT focusing the efforts (and lives) of our troops on the right enemies. Therefore, we are NO SAFER NOW than we were before the war.
** #3 ** The President's goal for this war is obviously NOT to augment the safety of the citizens of this country. It is were, we would have more than a color-coded warning system and an army of airport security officers taking shampoo and nail clippers away from little old ladies. The net result of the administration's actions since 9/11 has been to increase FEAR among the US populace. Someone who is afraid is easy to control. I believe it was fear that caused the deliberative bodies of our government to authorize this war in the first place. It is also fear that has allowed to administration to erode our constitutional rights. Remember: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" (attributed to Ben Franklin).
** #4 ** At the risk of sounding old: Please show some humility, young man. A lot was accomplished, and plenty of intelligent people lived, before you got here. I've lived twice as long as you, and I've been lucky enough to realize that almost every time I thought I completely understood an issue and could attack the opposing viewpoint, I was, at least to some degree, WRONG. I am NOT saying that a 16 year old is incapable of understanding geo-politics and other such "intellectual" topics. I BELIVE THE OPPOSITE TO BE TRUE. But, regardless of how well you understand the topic at hand, remember that you, like everyone else in the room, has only a PORTION of the truth. I'm sorry to sound condescending; that's not my intention.
May the war-free portion of your life start as soon as possible.

I am not all that confident that you really want to know why people are against this war but here goes -
*The Bush government has lied to the people about the reasons for this war from day one.
*Iraq was a secular, anti-radical Islamic state that, admittedly was run by a dictator (like a lot of other countries) but that posed absolutely NO threat to the US in any way shape or form.
*Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden despised Saddam and there were NO ties between Iraq and Islamic terrorist movements in the Middle East before the US led invasion.
*There were NO weapons of mass destruction. Saddam kept saying there were No weapons of mass destruction, Hans Blix and the UN inspectors kept saying there were NO weapons of mass destruction but GW somehow knew differently. Still, there have been NO weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq!
*The US has no right to go around the world picking out countries that it feels need a regime change just on its own say so. The US is not the world's police who should be going around telling other countries how to run their governments.
I could go on for hours but I will leave it at that and simply say - This War Is Wrong.
How many reasons do you need?

I am going to hop on the ban-wagon with this question. First of all, I posted a question asking the Bush Basher's to please, give me some credible documentation to back up their idea's. I did not obtain one good answer from them. The most they produce a spoof video made by comedians to try and validate their point. I read one of the so called answers to this question that said the Bush administration would be the down fall of this country. That makes me sick to my stomach simply because I realize that if there is a Democrat elected for President, that will then be the end of, or near the end of a great nation. I, along with many individuals who I know will at once liquidate our assets for one. With taxes sure to increase, I want my money in a Swiss bank account. Second, when the troops are hurried out of Iraq, every terrorist organization will then see the U.S.A. as the weak dogs they always thought we where and decide it is time to really put America in its place. They will attack. Third, the small amount of morality left in this nation will fall by the wayside. I am at that point pulling my children from public schools, which I am surprised at my self for not doing it already. Finally, my wife and I have already began talking about moving to another nation. I don't want my family getting caught as an innocent bystander when the terrorist attack out soil.

No one likes war. It breaks my heart to see our troops hurt, or killed. There has never been a war in all of history where mistakes were not made.
I fear the real worry for our nation is the wide ignorance of the American population that can not understand that we can not look at the happenings in the middle east with our western views. They do not think the same as we do. They have totally different ways of looking at the world. Even the most modern society is behind our country in viewing women, freedom of speech, dress etc. What we consider horrible injustice they consider discipline. We as a nation can not afford to treat this like Vietnam- This will not go away. If we leave it will not fade into the back ground. Terrorism is here to stay until we weed out the mentality that breeds it.
Do not get me wrong I feel awful about the damage and harm that has occurred for the people of Iraq, but consider the plight of Afghanistan with the Taliban. Can we afford to allow them to continue to grow terrorist?
Palestinians have war camps for young children in the summer-to teach them how to be good rebels. This is a sad reality.

I agree that everyone is entitled to their beliefs and opinions and we would all do better discussing these beliefs rather then condemning them. True Patriot, you make a very interesting point about mothers with hurt babies by American soldiers. However, looking at it from that perspective, you have to consider that were you a mother in Iraq during Hussein's rule, instead of a US citizen, you would be at the mercy of a madman and would be looking at your children/family and friends being murdered or threatened with torture and murder for no good reason at the whim of a dictator. Soldiers do not kill for the same reasons as dictators.
Semicolon, I just read over your additions and learned that you are only16. Im really impressed that you are concerned about these issues and seeking clear answers. The fact that you are looking on your own for the truth and consulting different sources for information is really important. I have talked to many teens who have listened only to their teachers (usually democrats) opinions and their parents, and that is their view. I have challenged them (to get them to think and make their own opinions) to tell me why they feel the way they do, and not one so far has been able to tell me more than what his/her teacher said. Your age group are our future and we need you to be educated and make sound decisions. Make sure to keep gathering all of your facts and stay as open-minded and un-jaded as possible. And everyone, please remember, the media is in the business to SELL and MAKE MONEY. Unfortunately, fair, unbiased and objective journalism is a thing of the past.

The majority of the people who are in the military are there for the money because they come from poor families/areas and it's pretty much a guranteed job with good pay. The only reason my husband wanted to go to Afghanistan was because he'd (hopefully) be coming back with a tax free 30 grand on top of his regular pay for six months of work and would be able to do a lot for our family. I'm against any and all war because it doesn't do anyone any good. Innocent lives are lost daily, families on both ends are destroyed and the billions of dollars it costs to maintain senseless violence could be better used to improve the educational system, health care, homeless shelters, childcare, etc.

Because he's fighting the wrong war. He should have finished the job in Afghanistan, wiped out Osama bin Laden and Al Quaeda. The ones responsible for 9/11
Then if the need to remove Saddam Hussein from power was necessary, the job would have been a lot easier, less costly and less dangerous.
He squandered the support of the world. If you're going to fight a war against global terrorism, then you are going to need allies. Allies share information. Allies share resources. Allies share responsibility.
Now, we're caught up in a Civil War. Al Quaeda has regrouped to pre-9/11 levels and the Taliban has been able to regroup as well. Top that off with Iran and their nuclear ambitions.
I am anti this war because this was the wrong war to fight.

Actually, i believe the complete opposite. War enablers are keeping our soldiers in the meat grider, and creating more terrorists. If your country was invaded by Saddam, would you fight back, or let them take control of your country with a police state? Would you fight back? The people there are getting shot at for just carrying a stick or something that might resemble a gun. Women and children and innocent men are being killed every day. The war is doing us NO GOOD.
These people are getting very angry with us, and i guarantee that Iraq will come back to bite us in the ***.
Ron Paul was right when he said "if you are going to go to war, get congress to declare it, and then fight it and win it, and then bring the troops home." He would not bring us into a war with somebody who never provoked us, just to enforce UN regulations. We are not the UN, and enforcing a UN-imposed charter is NOT the job of the USA.
Please go look into Ron Paul. If you desire to live in a free world, you would LOVE him.

no. the people that are for bringing our troops home and protecting our country are the halfway intelligent ones.
bush made the right decision? he based an entire war (with thousands of peoples' lives at risk) on his own intuition. his deceit by saying there was a strong possiblity of WMD's was as good as a lie. a strong possiblity suggests hard evidence. obviously there was none.
by diverting our attention from our real target (afghanistan) and onto a target that posed little to no threat (iraq) we've made our problem with the middle east worse. not only have thousands of americans died, but thousands more iraqi CIVILIANS have died. most americans don't really care, but whether they admit it or not, that makes our problems worse. by killing innocent non comabatant civilians, we have prodded the "potential terrorists" into becoming "terrorists". we've also given terrorists groups propaganda by which recruit more terrorists. it seems unlikely that our 'war on terrorism' has gone anywhere but backwards. also, iraq didn't attack us, people in afghanistan did.
if you don't believe me: look at the facts. since declaring war, there have been NUMEROUS terrorists plots in europe and north america (madrid, london, miami to name a few). whereas before the war and 9/11, there was maybe a terrorist plot every five years.
is it just me, or does it seem that, since the declaration of war, the terrorists have STEPPED UP their efforts?

First of all..I don't believe anything you say. I don't believe you had a friend that died, and if you did, I doubt he would want you to speak for him.
My question to you is what was the most dangerous country to the security of America when we attacked Iraq?
It wasn't Iraq. Maybe N. Korea with its push for nuclear weapons. Or Iran, a country known for exporting terror.
No, we chose Iraq. And we won the war. Now, our brave troops are dying trying to referee a civil war between different sect of the same faith. GET REAL.
Bring the troops home now, seal our borders and protect American shores.
