Actually my friend has the same name as his father and his little brother also has the same name. They call him by his middle name tho. Yea my b/f has a baby from a previous relationship and he's a jr. My b/f wants to name my son the 3rd. I dont think thats a good idea. Ur son will get very confused and it is a little disrespectful .I just think that it sux you miss out but you could also give ur son the middle name Diego. Or make his first name b his fathers middle name. He can still b named after his father without sharing his brothers name. Good Luck!

It would definitely be a bad idea to give your son the first name Diego. Kids often have a hard time when a new baby is born into the family. Imagine how you would feel if you were a child and your father was having a new baby with someone who wasn't your mom, and imagine that your father was going to give that baby YOUR name! Wouldn't you feel like you were being replaced? Wouldn't you wonder if maybe you weren't special enough? It will also be awkward for your son as he grows up. Your boyfriend's son Diego will be your son's half-brother. The two of them will always share the bond of having the same father. Wouldn't you feel weird if you knew your mother had another older daughter with your same name? It's better to give your son a a different name.
There are lots of ways to honor your boyfriend without making your son or his half-brother feel bad. Either...
1) Use Diego as a middle name for your son
2) Use your boyfriend's middle name as a first or middle name for your son.
3) Give your son the same initials as his father, but use different names
4) Name your son after someone your boyfriend respects.
5) If you plan to give your son your last name, use your boyfriend's last name as his middle name.

You can call your son whatever you want. I do understand where you are coming from though... If his son Diego (from his previous marriage) is old enough... ask him what he thinks about naming the baby... He might actually love the idea and think its cool. To him, it could be like naming your son after him and his father. If anything give him the middle name Diego.

I would not call him Diego. Your boyfriend would seem like an egomaniac or something, and one of the boys might end up feeling bad about it. Does your boyfriend have a middle name you could use instead? That way, they could each be named after the father without having the same name. Or, is there another family member you would like to honor?

How would you like to have a sister who has the same name as you? (Half sister or not).
Use Diego as a middle name. Maybe you could even use your boyfriend's middle name as the first name, and Diego as the middle name.
Out of respect for your son, and your boyfriend's first son (who, if you marry your boyfriend will be your step-son) you should not use Diego as your son's first name.

No, you should not be offended, number 1.
2. I think you are right to follow your gut feeling on this and not name him the same as the other boy. Use Diego as the middle name, so that you can still honour the father's name, but not displace the elder son.

As others said, use Diego as a middle name. And if you really want to honor someone by naming your child after them consider using your fathers name or maybe a variation of your mothers name. For example, if her name is Christine name your son Christopher...

Yes, that is a little weird. I think it is nice that you want to name your son after his father, but since he already has a son named Diego, I would do one of the following if I were you:
1.) Pick another name that begins with a "D" that would be in honor of your son's father. (Devon, Dermot, Damonte, Daniel, Domingo, Donovan, and David are all nice "D" names).
2.) OR - Go with your boyfriend's middle name, if you like it!
3.) OR - Find another name that you both can agree on!
Good luck and congrats on your baby boy to be! : )
