do you think there is a fundemental difference in the way americans see sport and the rest of the world see it?
generally, the rest of the world watch a sport, football for example, for the pleasure of the sport itself - 45 minutes each way and 15 minutes for half time and thats your lot.
on the other hand, american football - apart from the fact that its a stop/start game anyway -( how long is an average game?) - you get the 'entertainment' cheerleaders / half time stuff.-
what i trying to say is that i think an american audience has lost what the bare bones of your sports are about - the game itself - by becoming distracted by the razzamatazz that accompanies it.

the worst thing about our football is the millions of commercials they put on. As an american I love the sports (Football, Baseball, Basketball) and I hate the distractions but TV is all about the money now a days so I only seeing it getting worse.

Well, Americans probably do more marketing than the rest of the world. That's probably because the financial stakes are higher here than anywhere else. But I don't think there's any doubt we like the games themselves.

We seem to like our homegrown sports more. Could that be because of the history of immigration in this country? Do people coming here want to forget the old country's customs, or perhaps do their kids want to identify with something new? Baseball and basketball started here and spread. Football never really caught on beyond North America. Soccer never caught on here.

I honestly never thought about that. You have a great point. In fact, its kind of sad that I never though about it. I think we are just so accustomed to going over-the-top with everything that it just kind of happened this way. Really all that should take place during intermissions is maybe news on other scores in the sporting world. I hate intermissions, actually, I would prefer to watch a game straight through, completely uninterrupted. I completely agree with you.

basically the principle of sports is the same world-wide.
the fans come together for the love of the sport.
the razzle-dazzle is something the goverment comes up with to make more money. it's not like the fans one day were like, "LETS GET GIRLS TO DANCE AND CHEER AND FOAM FINGERS!", right?

If they didn't have distractions the American people wouldn't have time to stuff their faces full of faeces, they need this time to indulge in the most popular of all American sports...which is eating!

No there isn't. We do however have issues with sports that require judges to determine winners - Skating, etc.

Americans don't usually kill the players like the do in soccer.
It's not the difference you're talking about, but theres a difference.
