I think Tess is a rather sexy and unique name... Nobody's ever going to forget you with that name! A cool hippy chick also comes to mind. I also think it's very different and would work well for you at all stages of your life. Are you in to the arts ??? I find it to be rather fitting for a artistic woman.
Now Nicole is also a beautiful name ... It's also ageless ,timeless and classy. Shame it's become so popular.
As for disrespecting your parents ... You are your own person and if you don't feel your current name suits you, Why not change it?
Their two year rule does sound fair though.
Why not start using Tess now ? Ask you family and friends to call you Tess... Nothing wrong or illegal about having a nick name. Just ask politely and gently remind them that you would prefer to be called Tess.

I think Tess is very pretty and not an old lady name. There was a movie of the same name that came out either in the late 70's or early 80's. I can't remember much about it but seems that it was set in Britian during the late 1800's and starred Natasha Kinski (spelling?). She was very beautiful in that movie, and it's always been what I associate the name with. However, with all that said, I agree with the other poster who said it wouldn't be right to change your name now, and it would probably hurt your parent's feelings. I mean, Nicole (great name) is who you've been since before you were born. As a mother of two, I can assure you that your parents put a lot of thought into your name, and the love they felt for you, looking at your beautiful baby face and whispering your name, has imprinted the name Nicole on you forever. If that sounds constricting - it isn't. It's who you really are, and you should embrace it.
Don't say "never" to the change yet. I agree that you should leave the possibility open (so you don't still want it just because you can't have it), and waiting two years is a very good idea for a decision that big.
Oh, and you've already picked the perfect name for your future daughter!

Tess is a nice name, but Nicole sounds good also. I think you should probably think it out for at least a few months before you change it, because everyone already knows you as Nicole so wouldn't it be hard to get them to call you and think of you as Tess?, but that's your decision so think it over.

When I was in middle school, a British girl had moved to our town and was in my grade. She had an older sister with gorgeous blonde curly hair and a cute smile. Her name was Tess.
I always think of her when I hear that name because, since she was a friend's older sister, she was like the person to look up to. I think Tess is a beautiful name, very youthful and fun.

Not at all - I think Tess is a very classic name. However, I would never disrespect my parents by changing my name.

It is a stage of development that most kids, especially girls, go through. I suggest that you just try on Tess as a nickname and don't change your real name. Most people just outgrow this idea.

Tess reminds me of an old snobbish spinster. Don't insult your parents by changing your birth name. It's a very pretty name.

I don't think it sounds like an old lady's name. And besides, we all get old eventually, so, when you do, at least you'll have the name.
I like the name Nicole, though. Why change it?
