Intra-uterine-device. It is a form of birth control that is placed by a doctor in the uterus. It makes the uterus an inhospitable environment for a fetus to form. Some release hormones as well. I have one and it has worked out very well for me. Very little maintenance.

Intra Uterine Device, This is commonly known as a coil. If she has not had a pregnancy, the type used has to be a Mirena, a coil which also releases continuously a small amount of progesterone.
The coil is a plastic and copper device inserted into the uterus via the cervix. It acts as an efficient contraceptive for up to 5 years.

What she is talking about is an Inter Uterine Device. This is a small plastic device that is placed in the uterus to prevent implantation of the fertilized ovum. Your GF is going to need to see her gynecologist to have the device inserted.

It is a coil.
She means an IUCD, Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device.
IUD actually stands for Intra Uterine Death, but the initials are often used in error for Intra Uterine Device.

it is an intrauterine device used for birth control. She may or may not be able to have one depending on her obgyn as they have rules about issuing them due to age and whether she has already got any children.
