I'm very sorry to hear about your mom. Is there another female adult in your life that you trust? A neighbor? An aunt? A Grandma? Talk to her. Or, perhaps, an older girl... again, a neighbor? A cousin? I bet there's someone you could talk to.
Re: cramps... some people are opposed to using medication, but I figure, there is almost no risk involved in taking Tylenol, Advil, Midol (or any off-brand that does the same thing) so if it helps and makes you feel better, why not? Personally, I take over-the-counter pain reliever every month for cramps.
If you prefer more natural ways, walking (or other exercise) can help. So does heat (i.e. a warm shower, a heating blanket, even a hair-dryer... anything warm).
Last of all... don't be scared. This is a completely normal thing and, though it may be annoying sometimes, you will get used to and every girl goes through it. Hang in there! : )

SO sorry to hear you lost your mother. It is a big change in a girl's life to have the first period. Talk to a female relative , a grandmother, aunt or older sister. All of them have had this.
In terms of cramps, my daughter gets them bad for a few days, ibuprofen works best for her. Put a heating pad on the stomach a while if they are mild. IF they are bad, try ibuprofen as directed on the bottle. This will help relieve the cramping and bloated feeling that can happen in the stomach area during a period. Make sure you write down when the period first started, they happen anywhere between 21 and 35 days from the day that one started and can last from 7-9 days. If someone is athletic they can last less often.Be sure to talk to a female relative about this as they can help you figure out what your cycle will be if needed. This can be genetic, the age a mother started their's a daughter will the same age often. Welcome to being a woman in this now. With that comes responsiblity for your body as well. The period serves a purpose with reproduction. Talk to a female relative of how to best handle your changing hormone levels with this now.

Sorry 2 hear about your mom...You can tell n-e-1 that you feel close to, preferably female - cause they can relate...a friend/friendz mom, aunt etc. To relieve the pain any over the counter pain medication... I always use tylenol and advil. ( advil is good) but there are some that are made for menstral cramps, i think one is call Mydol? You can ask the pharmacist at a Walgreens, Albertsons, Longs etc. the can help you find something..Congrats on your period, welcome to womanhood.
Best of wishes

Congratulations!!!.
If you feel pain try to rest in bed, put something hot in the area or try some ibuprofen pills or there is many pill for period pains.
Remember that once you have your first period you have to visit a gynecologist once a year.
And if you haven't your mum, tell to another member of your family.
Good luck!!

People always say do exercise, take a hot bath or put a heating pad against it, which might work for others, but doesn't work for me. Generally I take about 2-4 Advil and within a few minutes it will go away. You won't like having a period later though.

Aw I'm sorry about you mom. Maybe you can find another role in your life, like a friend or family/friend that can help you, maybe a grandmother or your moms best friend? I know it might be awkward but if you live with your dad maybe leave him a note or put it on the grocery list. Good Luck! Hope this helped!

Anyone who you live with should be able to help you. There are many pain medications you can take, like Women's Tylenol, my favorite, but there is also Midol and Pamprin.
Welcome to the joys of being a woman. *some sarcasm.*

For cramps, just use Midol or Tylonal. That should help!
Congrats and good luck! Hope I helped!

Thermacare makes heating pads specifically for menstrual cramps... you attatch them to the inside of your underwear and the heat lessens your cramps. If they're really bad, try taking two Midol as well :)
