One should NEVER try and change one's personality in a very DRASTIC way. One should learn to be comfortable with who one is now and just work on those parts of their personality that they don't like about themselves. If you can't be loving and accepting of yourself as you are now, then HOW can you possibly expect someone ELSE to be that way? No, none of us is perfect and we ALL have things that we need to change about ourselves, but to completely change your personality is a VERY drastic way to go about it. Just work on one thing at a time, If you're a clingy, needy kind of person, work on being more self-reliant, if you lie to others a lot, then work on being more truthful about things. It takes a lifetime to work on SOME aspects of yourself, others it only takes telling yourself, "I'm not going to do that anymore" and just follow through with that. BUT, do NOT try to change everything at the same time, it becomes a pursuit that is just TOO difficult to handle. Work on ONE thing or maybe two things at a time, when you're successful at that then move on to something else. With each success that you have, it makes it easier to be sucessfull in the next atempt. (((Rae)))

Girl, that is tough. Cultivating a new personality? That's notsomething people can just up and do. Now a new attitude, that's easier. You have to really want it for yourself. You need to look at who you are and the triats that you feel are holding you back. Change your routines and habits. If I knew what you meant I could answer better, but you have a start.

of course, there are lots of things that can change your personality (some of the examples are posted above: a lobotomy, a traumatic experience, drugs, ...); however, if you're talking about a personality of your choice, it's usually quite difficult. the thing about personality is you don't choose it, it more or less comes to you.
even if you do manage to change your personality, the greatest adversity you'd face is your peers. if you want to continue with it anyway, be prepared for some possible criticism. but don't let it get you down; after a while, people willl forget your 'old' self
i would try meditating, that's the best thing i can think of. raising your self awareness is beneficial toward your life whether your trying to change your personality or not

It is not possible to cultivate a new personality. Improving the one you have is possible, but why would you want to lose the person you are? There must be something unique and special there?

Change the environment and any memories attached for an extended period of time in addition to changing the thought process. Add water.

Firstly, thank you for serving in the NYPD.
I would say, new-found patience and meaning from a life changing event, or becoming a mother, or determination to see a change in your viewpoint. When the lines between black and white are blurred, there is a clarity and joy in the grey area.
