I work for time warner cable and the pay is good and the benefits are outstanding, but the hours are the worst. I often miss out on family events and other important things because I have to work. I really just don't like dealing with the customer's either because some days I just don't feel like fixing everyone's problems which is pretty much my main job... I thought about being an electrician because I used to be one but I'm so affraid of getting laid off and I live by myself so I have only my income to rely on. Anybody out there know anything about being a union electrician or have any other ideas at all about what I could do about this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

All states don't recognize unions, NC being one. But the customer service work you're doing is so much less technical than the use of your skills.

Forget about getting fired. Heck, you could also get run over by a kitty cat. Go for the work that brings you joy. When you're happier you'll likely work harder and more creatively, thus making it less likely that you'll be laid off as an electrician. Plus, you can still get jobs on the side, especially since you're licensed.

If the negatives outweigh the positives, even if it's less money look to move on.....especially if you're an electrician - get a business license and strike out on your own. The fact is, if you're not willing to make the move, clearly you're not as unhappy as you're convincing yourself you are.
