I know someone who has 2 family doctors within commuting distance of his home. I just wondered if their is any provincial regulation restricting each resident to one family doctor. Many people cannot find one doctor .I feel he is denying someone else a doctor.

My question was not about the quality of our health care system my question was can one person have 2 family doctors .We have a good health care system when you read the input from other countries. It may have its flaws but it is available for all

my understanding is that you have one family physician, this one may be different from the one you had as a child, as in finding your own family physican. Your medical records are ususally faxed or sent over and any appropriate documentation would be there. It would be possible that each would not know of each other if you happened to have 2 family physicians. It could also create a conflict of interest too for them both. It would be interesting to see what OHIP would think on this matter as they in essence would be double billing. I think if you paid for every aspect of the care OHIP would not mind.
The only other time you usually have a different family doctor is if you are admitted in the hospital and a hospitalist is appointed for you. This helps to maintain practice as well as not all family phsicians have hospital privileges these days.
If i find out any more info i will submit it to you ASAP

Don't push being induced. Its no walk in the park.... believe me. Yes..... some people do great with being induced but thats not always the case. On the day I was 2 weeks overdue..... Feb. 2nd..... I went into the hospital to be induced at 4:30 am. I was 4 cm dialated.... 100% effaced and the baby was at +1 station. I was also having light contractions. SO they broke my water and contractions started but weren't very intense. So then they started the pitocin.... and I was very sensitive to it. They couldn't get my dose right... cause either there was too little or then I would get too much. I had non stop contractions.... as soon as one ended the next started. After about 8 hours of this I had to get an epidural. I was terrified of having an epiderial but getting no brake inbetween horrible contractions was soooo tough on me and the dr. had to basically talk me into getting it done. By, 6:00 PM I was fully dilated and started pushing. After about 5 hours of exhausting pushing my babys heart rate starting dropping really low. I had to get an emergency C-section. It was a horrible tramatic exhausting birth experience for both me and my husband. Because of the induction the baby never dropped and couldn't find its was to fit through my pelvis. This should have taken place when it naturally was suppose to happen. Thankgod baby and I turned out safe and healthy after the c- sec tion. But it definitely wasn't the beautiful birth experience I had longed for. Am still recovering from the section and it sucks. What was the hardest in the beginning was that I couldn't even stand up. It's horrible when you can't even get up to hold and comfort your baby with out the help of someone else. Also, now I will have to have a c-section with all my future babys. In hind sight, I wish I hadn't choosen to get induced. I wish I would have waited. IT probably would have only taken a few more days and he would have come. Really.... think really hard bout being induced before you try and get it done. I thought all those horror stories women tell bout all there complications of induction wouldn't happen to me....... but boy was I wrong.
