i am from the UK
quite recently our new prime minister made it easier on us brits to fly our flag by making it easier to have planning permission accepted for the installation of a flagpole- either standing or angled attached to a building
the Union Flag (only a Union Jack when on a ship - when on a ship the US has a jack which is the 50 stars on blue without the stripes... that flag is ALSO called a Union Jack- confusing eh!!)
the Union Flag used to be only allowed to be flown by the Queen and government buildings.
i am seeing a slow increase in the number of flags i see flying. i live in north west England in a rural area called the Lake District and i dont see all that many flags here- you have to look hard to find them!
in London when i went i saw alot of Union flags more than ive ever seen before on poles and things and in shop windows and on shirts and souvenir items.
i would love two flagpoles outside my house to fly the US flag and Union Flag but i live with my parents who are not big fans of flags- not even our own
the US has built up their love for the US flag over many years i dont think any country in the world has such love for their flag as the US does.
which i find a shame. i wish we had out our flags like the US.. part from anything else flags are pretty things! i loved seeing all the US flags when i was there- and indeed i own 60 US flags which as many as i can fit are displayed around my bedroom.
we want to fly our flag more but am afraid our country is in a state of mind where everthing has to be politically correct. and flying the England flag in particular might offend muslims..
i say if they dont like it - **** off back where they came from!! we need to stand up for ourselves and have some national pride!
as soon as i get my own place i am having flags outside!!

Some believe that a bigger, stronger EU (including the Balkans) will replace the US as the world's superpower. Germany is positioning itself to lead the EU. Globalists (including Obama) would like to see a 'United World' wherein all nations relinquish national sovereignty and become participants in a more 'just and equitable re-distribution of wealth and resources). Germany is also pushing for an EU military. Americans at home are relatively naive when it comes to international politics. They are narrow-mindedly battling domestic issues such as health care, and neglecting to see that all of Obama's programs are designed to facilitate the US into integration into a global government. The EU is slowly gaining power every day, and will lead the global regulatory body. The Climate Change summit in December will implement many policies that supersede national sovereignty. The WHO has already positioned itself to override sovereignty in cases such as the (man-made) H1N1 virus. Russia and China will balk at the EU/Globalist plan, as well as the Islamic world. Some have predicted that clash will result in WW3 - We are entering an extremely dangerous period in world history.

We don't, cos the flag's supposed to be special and so used on special occasions and places only. You need a permit to fly the flag on any other day in my country.
Not trying to dis anyone, but it feels like flying the flag on every possible surface (like you Americans tend to) cheapens the meaning of it.

I have my American flag flying 24/7 on my front porch post. I have an American flag sticker on my van. I have a small American flag flying from the back rest on my motorcycle. I have an American flag sticker on my motorcycle helmet. I have an American flag on the wall of my Sunday school class room. I have an American flag (made from a collage of many peoples' faces) behind me on my wall in my 'office'.

My family lives on a farm here in Iowa, and my Dad installed a flagpole out front. Every morning, at sunrise, he drops everything and raises the flag. It's a large flag too! Sometimes I'll go out and join him, as he raises it. And every night, at sunset, he takes it down, never lets it touch the ground as he folds it.
Sometimes, especially on significant days, like the 4th, or Veterans Day I see a tear in his eye.

You see the flag a lot in my town. Where I live now doesn't have any kind of flag pole, but my old house had one and we always flew the flag.

I don't. I live in Australia and to me our flag represents our oppressed origins and does not signify us as unique - it shows our link to the UK and does not define Australia today - which is a multi-cultural country. The flag reminds me that Australia's leaders are pussy-whipped by the Queen.

Yup - mine flies perpetually. Don't think as many local folks fly them as before because we're learning to be ashamed of ourselves. Maybe if I had some world power and made some global decisions I would be, but I don't, so I'm not.
