Well, here's how i think it works, no telling:
Crush asks YOU a question to learn about you, without announcing that is why of course.
Then you either answer and are soooo pleased to have been asked you completely forget your manners and don't ask a reciprocal question and you just babble a bit and smile a lot with big pretty eyes, or you ask them one now too.
It's not gonna be fun and natural and TIGHT when you have to tell them what you're doing and why....

Awwww, that's so sweet. There's nothing wrong about it, it's natural that you want to find out more about someone you fancy. I'd encourage you on it.
About the part on letting him know, he will.
In the off-chance that he has fallen into the typical clueless-guy-who-can't read-between the lines syndrome, you can sometimes try asking a few questions that are more specific to him, related with his interest.

Have you been talking to him? Try harmless flirting that worked for me. Just be careful that you just want to get to know him better.
I had a crush on this guy at work and started to go and visit him since I needed to deliver things to him frequently. We got to know each other. Problem was we were both married and that posed a problem. I started to get feelings and I believe in my heart by his actions he was attracted to me also. He never came right out and said. I had to tell him to knock off his flirting and complimenting me it was messing me up.

Why would u want him to know that? it's pretty creepy to find out someones trying to find out about you from others... Y rn't u talking to him?? he would be the best way to find out who he is. Averyone else will only give their opinion of him.
