Another scare tactic by the GOP so they can free up the money to raid and plunder it legally. They want to create a race of indentured servants in this country again. The US has always had a race of indentured servants from the slaves that helped found this country, to the immigrants of the late 19th and earliest 20th century, to the illegal immigrants and working poor now. In order for the elite of this country to be successful and thrive they need to keep a certain class of people down.

Social security was never meant to be the sole means of survival in old age. It was meant as a safety net to make sure the elderly of this country were not left broke and homeless in their "golden years".

I don't think it will be gone, but I don't think it can sustain itself in its present form. When the SS system was developed, people did not live nearly as long as they do now, and the percentage of the population that was working versus those receiving benefits was much higher. This has all changed, and will continue to do so.

It is a nice idea--create a social benefit system--retirement, health care, etc.,--that is funded by someone else, but it cannot work over a long period of time. Western Europe, Japan and the USA (in that order) will face an increasing problem in the future in that working people will have to support 1 or more people who are not working. Eventually, a "revolution" of some sort will have to take place.

I am not relying on SS for my retirement, and I advise others not to do so as well. I am putting away as much money as possible, making full use of 401(k) and other such plans.

Hopefully you're young enough to start investing in your own future instead of depending on another failed Democratic legacy like Social Security. I never count having Social Security as part of my retirement planning even though I pay into the fund year after confiscatory year . In my own mind I can't answer how they will make it solvent given that there are less and less workers supporting more and more retirees. To me the math says that Social Security will not be there when I get ready to retire, therefore my planning reflects that.

The war? I do not follow your logic. Is that what Democrats are being told? That the Social Security trust fund is going to the war?

No, dear. The Social Security trust fund has been eroded by every president who has "balanced" the budget. In addition, more workers are needed to fund the current retirees. People in retirement now take more than they put in, due to COLA's and inflation.

An estimate of the boomers retirement is that they will suck it dry, because it will take 4 workers for every retiree. Thanks abortion activists. I think they've killed our workers.

Better save in a 401K, Roth IRA, Traditional IRA, or TSP. Plus I have one retirment from previous employment, and am working on the 2nd. Did you think social security was your answer to pina colada time? Well it certainly wans't, and it was never meant to be that either.

PS. And George W. Coulter, nobody raided more money from Social Security than none other than Billary

They said that 30 years ago it will be gone. Until Bill Clinton became president we were worried but he cleared it up and said we had nothing to worry about. Our money was safe that was until Bush got in office and now it's gone.

probably, I'll be 65 and on the verge of retirement, I'm sure they will have moved the age up to 72 by then, but yes I have little chance of collecting on my years of contributions and will have no choice but to heavily arm myself and recruit other seniors to start a revolution and get our money back.

No, it will still be there. Only there will be a means test. People who saved money and/or got a good pension will get a small fraction of their benefits. It will be called "more fair" in new-speak.

I dont think so. I dont think it will be as good as what our parents and grandparents got, but i think it will still be around. A watered down version if you will.
For now-for our generation its best to prepare for it yourself. 401Ks and other options are what to look into these days.
