I'm 13 and going into 8th grade. I'm an a-cup bra(i've measured) and my mom can tell, however, she still refuses to let me wear a bra because she thinks I dont need one(even though she always points it out). My sister has even tried to convince her, and when she said that I was an A by measurement, my mom said,"ok" impartially. It is so irritating, not to mention embarassing! What can I do?

Also, if I talk to her about that kind of thing, which I've done, or tried to do, many times before, she just laughs loudly and tells the whole family that I asked and embarasses me more......

I'm sorry to hear that your mom is being so unsupportive of you. You are handling this situation like an adult, and she is not. I think the suggestion of asking a relative for help is a great idea. Perhaps an aunt, grandmother, or a close family female friend can help you. Either that, or you can save up some money and go by one for yourself. You can probably get an inexpensive bra at many different stores.
Good luck to you. Your mom is probably having a hard time accepting the fact that you are growing up - which is no excuse for her behavior. Hopefully she will get over it soon!

"my mom is like that. Im 14 and still and a-cup.But my mom usually will get me things if i tell her all the other girls are buying it, or if i start crying because my self-esteem is low because "all the other girls" have some thing and i dont."
And that ladys and gentlemen is why the youth of today is spoiled, and we wonder why they act the way they act! Okay - so my 2 cents on that - now to the question at hand.
My mother was the same way, too. We finally settled on a getting me a "training bra". If she doesn't want to go for that, then ask her if when you start your period, can you start wearing a bra - it's a maturity thing. That's what my Mom told me for shaving my legs - I could start doing it when I started having my period. You are 13, so it shouldn't be too much longer!

Yeah, you're around that age when wearing a bra should be a definite. I started wearing a bra once I had little bumps.. which was like 4th grade. I wonder why your mother is being so difficult, maybe it's because she just doesn't want you to grow up. If I were you, I would go out and buy one myself. Or talk to your school nurse, maybe she can contact your mom and tell her that its time for you to start wearing bras!

Honey, I am 30 something and an A cup. Wear a sport bra or a bikini top.I personally think bras are a waste of money for women who are not bustily endowed.I could not talk to my own mom about anything.Of cousre, I have a daughter younger than you who is no cup right now, but we got her some joe boxer bras at the Kmart for like 3 bucks.(I am small but in case she isn't I want her used to wearing those annoying things.Maybe your sis could get ya coupla bras.I am sorry to hear about your moms insensitivity to the whole thing. It is very stressful changing from little girl into young lady

Yeah you might want to get a bra, by grade 8 its almost essential especially for gym class wear you have to change. Tell her that you think its time and that you have given it a lot of thought and think you have come to a reasonable decision. Next time you are in the bra/underwear store ask a salesperson for there opion on what kind you should wear. Get your mom to talk to the person too. Good Luck

Well you don't want your boobs to start drooping already.. Which I promise they can even at a A cup size. Maybe she will let you start off in a sports bra, or a training bra. Hopefully she'll feel more comfortable about that since it's not exactly a real bra, (mabye she's scared b/c her baby is growing up so soon).
And if that still doesn't work, talk to a Aunt, or older cousin that is female, and maybe they can help you with getting one!
Goodluck!

Oh my goodness, what is wrong with mom? You are 13 and you should have at least 2 or 3 bras. Why would mom embarrass you like that? How old is your sister? Get her to talk to your mom on your behalf, this time seriously!! Let her know this is not a joking matter. This has upset me even so I can imagine how you feel.

Wear a cami with a shelf bra. Sure it's a little warmer to layer so many bits of clothing, but it makes a huge difference.
I wear a cami under my shirts and it looks the same as if I had worn a bra. Plus, depending on the cami, they're nice to wear on warm days when the rest of your closet isn't cutting it, since they have spaghetti straps :)
And if all else fails, try talking to your mom and telling her how you feel.

Tell her that if she doesn't get you one you're afraid the boys will stare at you. You really should be wearing one. I'm not quite sure what the big deal is. Does she not want to spend the money? If she still doesn't listen talk to an aunt or grandmother about getting you one and talking to your mom. Or, you could talk to the school counselor or nurse. Let them know what's going on, they could help too.
