No. Speed makes a much bigger difference. Slow down to no more than 40mph and your gas mileage can increase by as much as 25% and you might get over 50 miles per gallon. Once you get above 50mph the wind resistance, which increases exponentially, begins to have a very noticeable effect. If you were to drive about 100 mph your gas milage would drop down to about 6 miles per gallon.

Octane rating, by definition, is simply how well a fuel stands up to being compressed without knocking or detonating prematurely. The only reasons to ever use anything but the lowest octane offered are
1. Your engine has a high compression ratio (like 10:1 or higher).
2. Your engine has forced induction (turbocharger or supercharger).
3. Your engine has problems with knock or detonation.

Buy the cheapest gas. Most cars run just fine on the very cheap stuff. Unless you're driving a high end auto don't waste your money on premium gas.
