Grass, berries, nuts, coconuts, dried fruits, all edible fruits found in the jungle. I mean edible to humans coz they are relatives of Humans.

Just about anything, honestly. I work in a sanctuary for chimps and orangs that have been in entertainment and research and they have been fed almost anything including McDs. We feed them a much more strict diet, but the chimps often get tuna and chicken as a treat. Both species get a lot of fruits and vegetables. Occasionally we might give them some chocolate or soda or something like that. They also get "monkey chow" which contains a lot of nutrients they need, the vegetation is for variety and to give them a nice round diet.

I will say this, some of them have food restrictions due to allergies. Any of the females on birth control are also restricted from grapefruits. Other than that, anything goes.

In the wild, it varies. Gorillas eat vegetation and fruit, occasionally insects. Chimps eat the same but sometimes hunt small animals and monkeys. Orangutans eat a very wide variety of vegetation and fruits. They are actually eat more vegetation and fruit than most any other animal. Bonobos eat much the same as chimps though they don't hunt. Gibbons and Siamangs are both fruit and vegetation eaters (they are lesser apes).

Apes except gorilla are best described as omnivorous, who enjoy eating fruits, grass seeds, and some meat and invertebrates—either hunted or scavenged—along with anything else available and easily digested. Gorillas enjoy eating leaves more be (foliovores) while the others are all primarily enjoying fruits of any kind ( frugivores).I have seen an ape who enjoys eating ice cream!

Some apes really enjoy eating leaves. They are quite tasty to various primates such as apes. For example, the gorilla.
