I disagree!. I have many things that I feel is worth living for but so very few,if any to die for.
I mean there are situations that I would inadvertently "RISK" my life for, like to safe the life of someone. But there is nothing I can think of that is worth just plain giving my life for.

I'm sorry, I would have to disagree, because lets say you are pretty much alone on this earth, nothing really to "die" for, but still you should be thankful you are here, and that you are blessed to be a creation of God.. I say you should be thankful for every day you are given, even though you don't have anything to "die for", because life is worth living.. you can contribute to the quality of many others lives, without having anything to die for.. So, I guess if you think in less selfish terms (not calling you selfish!!) ... but.. I don't think you have to have anything to die for to appreciate life and be the best you can be to yourself and to others... every day is a gift!!! Just my opinion... thanks for the great question!!

I think that is a harsh quotation. It seems so unhappy and inflexible. If you think of examples of people who have things worth dying for, such as suicide bombers and other unhappy people, you see that it is a philosophy of pain and despair.

The hard thing is to find a way to live a mindful and aware life and know how to bring happiness into your life.

Not always, sometimes people feel depressed and don't feel as if they have anything to live for, even though they have family that love them, and may have things yet to be discovered in their life that their not aware of. I know someone who was like this and learned how to do something that he always wanted to do, and now is very happy and so glad that he didn't succeed with what he was going to do to himself.

"Dying" is a mutable term. For example, if it is taken in the Christian sense, "dying to one's mortal mindedness" is as "losing one's life for Christ's sake."

If one has no attachment to a particular "transcending" or "life-changing" condition, one is more likely in a simple state of boredom or apathy.

It is perhaps better to know self, even if one finds oneself to be boring, apathetic, than to develop an intensity of attachment, to a misguided or deceptive cause. Eventually, by iteration, such a lukewarm/apathetic one arrives at Plotinus', Husserl's, and Whitehead's position of Creative knowing of Self.

Reading "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Yogananda, "Kundalini West" by Ann Ree Colton, "The Masters and Their Retreats" by Mark L. Prophet, and/or "Light Is a Living Spirit" by Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov facilitates for those of good will, insight as to how to go about knowing self.

cordially,

j.

Agree. Passion is everything in life. You have to have something that keeps you waking up every day. Mine is Marine Biology. Something just has to be good enough to keep you going.

I disagree, Why love someting so much you would want to die for it, If my bf told me he loved me so much he would die for me I wouldnt like that at all, Why not love something so much that your willing to LIVE for it and make the best of every day with it while your still alive, then be so in love with something to want to rush so quickly into death. to me thats just depressing Emoism.
