Has anyone come upon a situation where a Sulfa Block actually helped an ALREADY sick turtle? I read the reviews online from petsmart and petco, but i'm not completely convinced because they seem to just post only the good reviews and never the bad ones in order to promote the product

1. What is the problem? Sulfa is an antibiotic and antifungal and will not help virus-based problems like a respiratory infection.

2. Dissolving blocks (sulfa or calcium) just foul the water. If you have the right filtration needed for turtles, it removes most of the active chemicals.

3. There is no way to carefully regulate the dose, so the block is made to be very weak- almost no help at all.

4. Because of the weak dosage, it tends to kill the weak bacteria- and any bacteria that survive are more resistant to it. NEVER use anitbiotics 'just because'!

5. If sulfa would help your turtle's condition, the product called 'Turtle Sulfa Dip' does a MUCH better job when used per directions.

If this sounds negative- good. There is a LOT of stuff in the mega-pet store that is just totally a waste of money. Much of it is even dangerous for your pet. Sadly- the vast majority of the stuff sold for turtles falls in this category.
