The price does not seem to be out of line.Is the car in good shape, and able to be driven that distance?

If you were to drive the car across the country (let's use 3000 miles as the distance) and were to get 30 MPG that would mean you would burn 100 gallons of fuel! Using a price of $3.00 per gallon, you are looking at $300 for fuel. Add the cost of an oil change, because you will need one after that distance and you are up to $335.00.

If you drive 500 miles per day (which is a lot, especially if you are not used to driving long distances) it will take you 6 days to drive. This means that you will have to spend 5 nights on the road. Even if you find cheaper motels (and you have to be careful about your safety there) you will be spending $50 a night at the very least. That means that you have to add another $250 to the total cost.

We are now at $585.00 and have not yet figured the cost of meals, drinks and other expenses..

You also have to figure the cost of your travel. What is it going to cost you to get to VA? Are you planning on flying, or taking a bus? What is that going to cost?

Look at the costs, and the risks involved and see what is best for you. I would not hire someone else to drive the car, unless they are bonded and insured!

If you have an older car, it may be better to sell it and buy a different car in VA.

Wow, that's a 2,700 mile trip. Most vehicles capable of car hauling get around 15-18 mpg, which means the shipper would be shelling out over $500 just in gas one way. Your best bet is to get a quote from an independent shipping service like: http://kandptransport.com/ .

Yes, you can drive it across the country, but you have to add the cost of the fuel, food, hotel, and any tolls you are going to pay. I think that your time is probably the most important factor, but I think some would look past that.

I would get it shipped. I looked up and here's a place to get a quote for that - http://www.transitsystems.com/auto_shipping/
