I've visited California once and love it...would love to move there. But people are always saying that people in CA are very superficial and materialistic. It may be like that in some areas, but is it as bad in, say, Sacramento? Or northern CA?

I live in Los Angeles and I can tell you from first hand experience that ppl here indeed are superficial. But if you go up north say to san francisco sacramento stockton livermore chico etc ppl really dont care much for superficiallity nor are they materialistic. I considered moving to SF but the only thing that held me back is the weather. L.A. has the best weather ever!!! But the most snobby ppl too.

I used to live in Stockton, CA which is a good 60 miles South of Sacramento. California in itself is like any other state. Sure some of the bigger cities have some crude people. But that's because they think they're better than everyone else. But not all people from California are like that. Every stereotype has it's truths but it also has it's exceptions.

But don't let what people say about California keep you from going. If you love going, GO!

I've lived my whole life in either LA area or San Diego area. I think the west side of LA has a higher concentration of superficial people than elsewhere in the state. That's why I love San Diego...cleaner air, same great weather as LA, less superficial people.

A place is what you make it and there are good and bad people wherever you live.

I have lived all over the nation including Los Angeles. Yes, especially if you live near Beverly Hills, Malibu, Westwood, etc, it can be a bit plastic. But we had wonderful friends wherever we lived (including Beverly Hills and Manhattan Bch).

I personally like San Francisco better though.

Some areas tend to have more superficial people, and they tend to be in the south and on the coast. The rest of the state has regular people.
