I currently live at home with my family and we have two girl cats. Angel is almost 9, and DeDe is a young baby of 2 years old who we just recently adopted.
DeDe is always pouncing on and fighting the older cat, they often get lot's of scratches and are always screaming and hissing. Angel tries to stay away from the kitten. It's obvious that she really doesn't liket the younger kitten, she has to ALWAYS run and hide from her or seclude herself somewhere.

So now I want to move and take my cat Angel with me, but my family says that it's cruel to separate the two cats.
I want Angel to come with me cuz she is actually MY cat and I want her to live someplace more relaxing where she's not always on edge or trying to hide from the pouncing younger cat.
Am I doing something wrong?????

I think your moving and taking Angel with you is best for all concerned. Angel has been an only cat for 9 years. She is not used to sharing your love with another cat--especially one that terrorizes her at every opportunity. Since you are planning to move, it makes perfect sense for you to take Angel with you. You are taking your faithful companion away from her tormenter, and allowing her to continue being with you after all these years. I agree with you that she was happier before the new cat arrived. This gives her the opportunity to live out her remaining years in the company of the one she loves, and not having to hide and be fearful of being attacked. She is YOUR pet after all. Why should you have to leave her behind? If you did, Angel would miss you and continue being DeDe's victim. She deserves better than that.Your family can get another young cat if they think DeDe needs company.

In general, I would say you're doing nothing wrong by moving with Angel. But, it depends on the circumstances. You say Angel is nine years old. If she is an indoor-only cat, then it would probably be fine for her to move with you and remain an indoor-only cat, provided she still has plenty of room and isn't cramped in a tiny apartment. However, as an example, if your family has land and Angel is an outside cat sometimes and has been prowling around your family's property for years, it might be very stressful on her to move. I would make your decision based on how much it would change Angel's everyday routine. At nine years old, I wouldn't try to change her lifestyle very drastically or it might harm her in the long run. If you do decide to take her with you when you move, try to make the transition a smooth one. If she has a bed that she sleeps in, or favorite toys, etc., I would definitely take them with her. Also, definitely keep her diet the same, and it might be helpful to take her food, water bowl, and litter box too, so she can have her familiar things. Bottom line - in making your decision, put Angel above your own wants - I'm sure she is a great cat and you want her to be happy, so do what's best for her. It does sound like Angel prefers to be an "only-child" cat. As far as DeDe, if you end up taking Angel with you, it might be nice for your family to get another cat so DeDe still has a playmate. Best wishes!

Obviously the cats dont get along well. Older cats that are stressed are not a good thing. My cat got so stressed out when a kitten moved in next door that she licked all the hair off of her belly and at least 6 years later it hasn't grown back.

It would be best to move them away from eachother. And no, you would be doing the right thing

Hope I helped :)

I dont think you are doing anything wrong but i think that the other cat is trying to show who is superior in the house hold i dont know i dont own a cat but thats kinda what happens with dogs and they probably might be doing the same thing

no. i think your cat needs a break from dede!! that's not a bad thing cuz your cat doesn't like the other cat and most likely wants to get away from the poucning kitten!!! LOL!!!

It sounds like a good idea to separate the two cats. From what you say they don't seem to be getting along.

You are doing a great job by seperating them. If they dont like eachother, then why go and put them together.
