I think you will find that the "most people" you are referring to will all be of the younger generation. Currently, young people seem to need almost constant reassurance that they are doing the right thing or that what they have done is simply wonderful - note the constant high five hand slapping crap. The older generation doesn't require this because they didn't grow up in a PC atmosphere where most everyone was constantly worried about their little egos. The older generation, of whom I am one, was told to keep our mouth shut and learn and when we did venture an opinion or advice we were immediately rebuked if that advice was not worthy which it most often was not.

This question more properly should be in the psychology category. Most people, I think from over 70 years experience, are a little insecure in their relations with other people and need constant verbal or other approval for their utterances and actions in order to squelch this feeling of insecurity. It comes naturally because all (?) infants are basically followers and imitators. It becomes almost a subconscious need.

Many people, however, learn to get along in their sayings and actions without any feed back from others. They are the confident egotists. This too is a learned behavior.

Good luck in getting "kudos" from others, good health, peace and love!

what makes you think that what they require is "gratification" and not simply "a response"?

i don't believe this has anything to do with a person's age. Its more related to the kinds of activities that the person gets invovled in. most likely you would expect some kind of response from someone if it was the kinda activities that require a lot of team work and communication.
