I have to pick Pele. I know Ali Daei holds the record of the player who scored the most international goals - some 30 more than Pele.

But don't forget Iran played against Asian teams with semi-professional players (no offence). Like the 7-0 drubbing of Laos where Daei got 3 goals in the game (he's scored plenty of headers I might add).

Pele played against quality teams in South America and in World Cup games where the best 32 teams in the world are showcased.

So you have to put it into context.

The record might be Daei's but I think Pele was the better striker.

a better comparison is pele or maradona, that will stir up debate and even i would not be sure

here i have to say pele, ali daei was good but he wasnt facing the best in the world on every match. That and pele did so much for soccer, brought around the globe including the USA. Part of being the best is everyone knowing u as the best, and only in asia was he considered the best and pele/maradoran r the two answers any fan will give if their unbiased(a german could go with beckanbaur)

It isnt fair bc the competition they played against wasnt the same n that throws the numbers off, likeme saying is Eric Wynalda better than well anyone, bc he has the most goals for a striekr by the US dosnt mean hes better than a twellman or eddie johnson or even a borgetti or otehr intl player

the numbers need to be put in place with opponent

I dont know cause both strikers have their own style.ali daei is more scoreing and taking shot type than pele who scores lesser goals but still a very good player who plays for a better side i guess so it matter of fact how u look at it. Hey dude pele also played against many what u call "semi-pro" countrys and he also thrashed many lesser opponents and every country does regardless of where they are positioned in map
