*PLS HELP* Hi, i need help in solving this simultaneous equation using the substitution method. This is my example question and i have many more, but i am hoping that this question solved with steps to tell me what you did will allow me to complete my assignment. PLS HELP REMEMBER KARMA Y=4x-12 & 3x-5y=26
Remember to substitute the y in the second equation fo (4x-12)

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP, VERY APPRECIATED. IT'S VERY HARD TO DECIED WHO GETS THE 10 POINTS. AFTER LONG THINKING AND DECISION MAKING THE POINTS GO TO MON ONLY BECAUSE OF THE GREAT EXPLANATION THAT WAS PROVIDED. eg. -17x+60-60=26-60
BUT ANY WAY, THANX XEN AND PI R SQUARED FOR YOUR VALUBLE CONTRIBUTIONS.
THANKS,

Y=4x-12
3x-5y=26
so substitute the value of y given in the first equation into the second equation:
3x -5(4x-12) = 26
3x - 20x + 60 = 26
-17x = -34
x=2
y = 4(2) - 12 = 8-12 = -4

x=2

The original equation is 4x-12=y

The next equation is 3x-5y =26

put the 4x-12 inplace of the y in the second equation

you get 3x -5(4x-12)=26

3x-20x+60=26
-17x=-34
x=2

in this example the first equation was already set up that y=4x-12. If you are given something other than that (which is common), such as 2x-2y=8 and the second equation is 7x-3y=28 then you must set the first equation = to y before you subsitute.

So 2x-2y=8 becomes x-y=4 then x-4=y
Plug this into 7x-3y=27
7x -3(x-4)=28
7x-3x+12=28
4x=16
x=4

Hi,

Y=4x-12
3x-5y=26

Substitute 4x - 12 into the second equation in place of y. It becomes:

3x - 5y = 26

3x - 5(4x - 12) = 26

Distribute to eliminate parentheses.

3x - 20x + 60 = 26

Combine like terms.

-17x = -34

Divide by -17.

x = 2

Substitute this back into one equation for x and solve for y.

Y = 4x - 12
Y = 4(2) - 12
Y = 8 - 12
Y = -4

The answer is (2,-4) where x = 2 and y = -4.

I hope that helps you!! :-)

Y=(4x-12)
3x-5y=26

3x-5(4x-12)=26
3x-20x+60=26
-17x+60-60=26-60
-17x=34
-17x/-17=-34/-17
x=2

y=4x-12
y=4(2)-12
y=8-12
y=-4

(-2,-4)
