Joke question, unless I am mistaken, it's to prevent us from eating it!

Wild, non domesticated dogs & cats will eat carrion, (rotting flesh) Just as the smell of cooked food makes us hungry (even if we're not) the smell of rotting food could trigger a sence of primal urgency (to eat) in animals.
Personaly the smell of cat food makes me chuck. :-(

Well it's an acquired taste I guess. My dog will eat his food but goes hyper when I BBQ anything, use cheese, or fry up eggs.

I see it as something that you like, may not be appetizing for everyone else. Lets try some examples.... in Thailand they eat scorpions and crickets, in Hong Kong they sell curry ice cream, and then we can ask something simple...how many out there eat their eggs with ketchup?

If you were an animal that went around smelling your own and other animals rear ends, pet food would smell good to you!

They love it, so why should we care? Personally though, I think chicken smells terrible, but it's still one of my favourite foods.

Whatever you do though, don't leave broccoli sealed in a pressure cooker overnight, and then make the mistake of opening it.

It does stink doesn't it? But, to a pet it will smell delicious, and that's all that matters.
