This answer is also for those answering this question that are also itching with out a rash .
Cholestasis of Pregnancy

The only rash like symptom you may have is whrere you have scracthed so much that you make your skin bleed.
IT IS NOT AS RARE AS PEOPLE THINK

itching during pregnancy especially in the 3rd trimester There is a risk to your baby.

Still Birth If delivered later than 37 weeks

Please visit and READ Information at
www.itchymoms.com
or
Search the web for Cholestasis of Pregnancy or ICP
There is also a news report at www.wkyc.com and clink on the "Itchy Moms" story
Itching can be more dangerous than you think during pregnancy.
I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE...........
Not all doctors a familiar with Obstetric Cholestasis.
Go straight to your DR and ask about Cholestasis of Pregnancy or ICP.

It is to do with your liver and pregnancy hormones.

I have had this with 3 of my 4 pregnancies.
All it is, is a simple itch that will drive you crazy that is the only symptom.

Ask to have your BILE SALTS tested this is the only test that will diagnose OC/ICP,
Argue with your Dr if you have to, it is worth it.

Liver fuction tests and blood counts DO NOT diagnose OC/ICP the only can help the diagnoses in conjunction with Bile salt tests .
An itch doesn't seem much but it can be FATAL to your baby if it goes undiagnosed.
The itching can be any where I had it on my legs and arms at first.
I don't want to scare you but please realise this is very important

Yea ive been having the same problem, my stomach has been itching like crazy for 2 weeks. I've found that calomine lotion or aloe vera can give somewhat temporary relief and that loose clothing really helps as well. I've also found that if I wear anything with synthetic fibres touching my belly that the itching gets much worse. My rash got particularly bad one night when I put vitamin E oil on it. I'm staying away from it until the end of the pregnancy. While my doctor did prescribe a cortisone cream I've decided not to go with it...I may be a overly cautious but I'd rather suffer through the last of my pregnancy without adding more chemicals to my skin...especially anywhere near the baby. My doctor did inform me however, that cream applied to the stomach area will not affect the baby...it's only if you take the medicine orally. So, if you're itching at the beginning of your pregnancy some type of cortisone may be the way to go, if your doctor recommends it.

How far along are you? I had a horrible rash that appeared out of nowhere one night during the end of my third trimester. I was told that it was probably because I was stretching to the max because I only had it on my stomach. I found that putting lotion of any kind on my belly helped to relieve the itching, but not for long! I was constantly putting more and more on! Luckily it only lasted a week, as I had my baby boy a week after my rash appeared! Definately ask your doctor about it, and if you are worried about it that much, call him/her! That is what they are there for! Office hours or any time, the on-call doctor will call you right back and help to put your mind at ease about things. Good luck!

YES i'm 33 weeks prego and about a week or so ago i developed a horrible rash on my right breast, under my arm, and a few spots on my back. I thought it was a heat rash. Turns out to be shingles!! this can happen to some women in the last trimester. My dr put me on medicine 3x's a day. It may hurt and sting but try rubbing alochol and calamine lotion. Hope this helps

Were you in the heat today at all? It sounds like heat rash to me.

Staying cool and dry will get rid of it in a day or two.

As long as you do not have fever you are okay.

Some women also get hives when pregnant.

Although, with the heat and humidity around lately, it seems alot of preggos are asking this. Your more susepable to heat rash when pregnant, thats why you might not remember getting it before now.

It sounds to me like the girl above, since she's so far into her pregnancy, probably has stretching skin. It causes horrible itching as the skin stretches. Lotions of anykind, anything that might moisturize the skin help relieve that.

some people do develop a rash starting in the first trimester.. sometimes it lasts until after delivery and sometimes it only lasts a couple weeks.. it is hormones.
Cortizone creams will help and are safe for your child.

Unless the medications/chemicals are introduced into the blood stream they cannot affect the child.. ie inhaled.. no painting, gardening with chemicals.. orally ingested. maybe open cuts but the chance is very small.

Maybe also try an oatmeal paste.. mix cooked oatmeal and water. cool and apply.. do before a shower. will help relief itching and is natural!

I have heard that in the latter stages of pregnancy you can get a rash, I forget the name of it but it is due to the drastic change in hormones and you can also get it after you deliver the baby as well because of the release of all the hormones. I never had it myself when I was pregnant or afterwards but ask the doctor about it tho.

Yes i have. my doc told me its a hormonal rash you get when you are pregnant and it covered almost 80% of my body the best thing to do is use a small dose of benedryl (pill) or use a hydrocortizone cream. use the cream atleast 3 times a day that will help get ride of it the quickest. but you should keep the cream with you incase you are out and start to itch again bad. i finally had gotten rid of mine about three weeks ago but it started to come back on my stomach and the cream really helped me.

Yes, I'm just know getting over a terrible rash and itching spell. My doc said it wasn't due to pregnancy but she didn't know what it was. She just told me to use Benadryl cream. And trust me, that stuff works wonders!!! I tried a little test the other day and stopped using my cocoa butter. As soon as I stopped, the itching on my hands stopped. I've been itch free(and cocoa butter free) for a week now.
