I asked this question a while back and got the libs answers of... they have no way to process it.... or why can't they have nuclear power... they would never look to misuse it...
First... nuclear power works well for large cities and metropolitan areas. Iran is mostly made up of smaller villages miles and miles apart.
Second... the Japanese were helping them to gain the technology to tap into the oil reserves they currently aren't capable of tapping as were the Russians... that is until they started to go after nuclear "power".
Third... if you are sitting on all that oil don't you think you could learn how to refine it? I mean, that is only done ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Finally... people say it's their biggest export and they make more by selling it... even though it would take them well over 100 years to use up the reserves... why don't they just use their natural gas reserves... after all, next to Russia, they have the largest natural gas reserves.
So, why do they need nuclear power?.... If these guys can't figure it out they desrve to get hit in the head with a stupid dart.
Here's the link to my question...

Not for energy.
I can think of two other reasons. The first is to be the most powerful nation in the Middle East.
The second is take out the United States. And they don't need a large number of bombs to do it.
There is a seldom discussed item called Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) that is released every time a nuclear bomb is exploded. It has a nasty effect of completely destroying any electronic circuits more advanced than a vacuum tube, unless the circuit is protected. All it takes is to detonate a bomb in the upper atmosphere to create an EMP sufficient to take all the electronics in a radius that is line-of-sight to the explosion.
Iran has been conducting tests in the Caspian Sea, launching a Scud missile from tramp steamers, the kind no-one worries about, and detonating the missile in the upper atmosphere. There could only be one reason for conducting such tests. Two, maybe three such explosions would be all it takes to send the U. S. and Canada back into the stone age. Are you worried yet?
Picture the U. S. with no electricity. No vehicle ignition circuits would work. No telephones or cell-phones. No power grids. No television. No radio. No PCs. No banking. No distribution of food and water. No sanitation facilities. If it runs on electricity, it's dead. And it's not just a matter of resetting the circuit breakers. Those circuits are FRIED and have to be rebuilt.
About the only circuits that have been protected from EMP in this country are those that deal with military and government communications and command and control networks. A lot of good that does the general population. It might make you feel good knowing that Iran has been turned into a sheet of glass in retaliation, but your life will never be the same.
And does anyone want to consider the threat of China in the same light ... ?
Got ammo?

Nuclear power is far more efficient, and much cleaner.
almost every country in the world that isn't a 3rd-world ghetto realizes this.
If the reactors are built by an outside contractor as light water reactors, it would take an awful long time for them to build weapons with the spent fuel. If they tried to alter them in anyway to increase the fissile material to make weapons, I'm sure a few spy satellites will quickly pick it up.
If they are willing to shut down their enrichment process, or do it on foriegn soil so it can be monitored without problems, i don't see any reason why they shouldn't be allowed the technology for power.
not flag waving for Iran or anything, but if I was a leader of a country and threatened by a nuclear power, i would definitely seek a way of leveling the playing field.
So I think it is time for the State Department to do their job, and dismiss their fears of attack.

Their production has been declining for years Iraq has the 2ND largest reserves and is still not achieved peak but Saudi and Iran are at peak or past peak production they have been pumping since 1932 or so, the largest oil field was Garwar in Saudi Arabia but they now have to inject steam in the ground to pressurize and keep up production. Iran needs other power sources because oil is their chief export and source for hard currency, they have been under trade embargo for years so they need the oil for export. Next check IAEA reports on Iran nuclear program compliance and cooperation. then look at reports by Al baradai and Hans Blix
although under pressure to condemn Iran from us they have been pretty mum on the whole subject if Iran was clearly in violation as pundits and Dick Cheney say it would be clear from IAEA monitoring sat. intell.

It's like this:
The town muscle man, is telling other guys in town that they can't buy any gym equipment, unless they're a good friend.
Problem is, this muscleman's good friends are sometimes turning into enemies with muscles (ie Saddam, Bin Laundry head, etc). Then muscleman wants to duke it out with them. The skinny guys feel threatened from all sides. The poor bast@rds just want to be able to hold their own. They just want to be able to flex like everyone else.
They just want some dumbbells (well, other than the main dumbbell Ahmadinejad!)

They said that they needed a nuclear plant to produce electricity which seems to me to be a reasonable request if that's all they want to do with it There are many countries in the world that do this without being a threat to world peace. I am a Brit living in Bulgaria who also have a nuclear electric plant and they are not a threat. Even Japan our WW2 enemies have one. So long as Irans nuclear plant is monitored 24/7 I see no problem,

I agree it has nothing to do with enviromentalism. Nor does it have much to with refining the product they already have as there is enough money there to create the facilities. It has more to with wanting what other countries have. Like a younger sibling wanting the same rights and priviliges as a older one. "Aw... Mom... Why can't I stay up as late as so-and-so?". It won't matter that we have had problems with our own nuclear power plants. We have it... As for weapons use... who knows. That is good possibilty.

I'm with you but it should also be noted that they import nearly all their gasoline, they have FEW refineries. The people of Iran are loudly protesting against their leaders for long lines at the pump.
Ahmadinejad has an apocalyptic agenda is the answer to your question and I'm sure that he is willing to back up his strong rhetoric against Israel and the U.S. if he is allowed to continue his efforts to build a nuclear arsenal.

They arent stupid like other mid-eastern countries that sell their oil. Once the major exporters run out of oil, Iran is will have its own reserves and sell it at its own price or use it for its own causes. Thats pretty much the same reason the USA doesnt export Alaskan Oil.

At some point the earths fossil fuels will run out....oil....natural gas and coal as there's only so much and it takes millions of years to make more. So when do you plan for your countries future? Now, while you have the means to do so, or when your down to your last drops?
