8x + 5y = 45
8x = 45 - 5y
x = (1/8) (45 - 5y)
x = (5/8) (9 - y)

"as a function of x" means you need to solve for y

-8x - 5y = -45
-5y = 8x - 45
y = (-8/5)x + 9

f(x) is also known as function of x
f(x) = y
So basically you have to solve for y

-8 x - 5 y = -45
5 y = 8 x - 45
y = (8/5) x - (45/5)
y = (8/5) x - 9
