Hello to all, well i am 30 weeks pregnant and for about 3 weeks I've been suffering from a red, itchy rash that appeared on my stomach...taking shape of my stretch marks. Then Thursday, it seem as if the rash spreaded to other parts of my body....back of my legs, arms, hands, and feet. I was wondering has anyone else experienced this and what can u do to reliave the itch? I used creams, oatmeal bath...but nothing seems to work for too long. Doctor suggested that I use an icepack and stay in a cool area. What have you done to reliave this itch????!!!

It sounds like stretching skin but just in case

This answer is also for those answering this question that are also itching with out a rash .
Cholestasis of Pregnancy

The only rash like symptom you may have is whrere you have scracthed so much that you make your skin bleed.
IT IS NOT AS RARE AS PEOPLE THINK

itching during pregnancy especially in the 3rd trimester There is a risk to your baby.

Still Birth If delivered later than 37 weeks

Please visit and READ Information at
www.itchymoms.com
or
Search the web for Cholestasis of Pregnancy or ICP
There is also a news report at www.wkyc.com and clink on the "Itchy Moms" story
Itching can be more dangerous than you think during pregnancy.
I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE...........
Not all doctors a familiar with Obstetric Cholestasis.
Go straight to your DR and ask about Cholestasis of Pregnancy or ICP.

It is to do with your liver and pregnancy hormones.

I have had this with 3 of my 4 pregnancies.
All it is, is a simple itch that will drive you crazy that is the only symptom.

Ask to have your BILE SALTS tested this is the only test that will diagnose OC/ICP,
Argue with your Dr if you have to, it is worth it.

Liver fuction tests and blood counts DO NOT diagnose OC/ICP the only can help the diagnoses in conjunction with Bile salt tests .
An itch doesn't seem much but it can be FATAL to your baby if it goes undiagnosed.
The itching can be any where I had it on my legs and arms at first.
I don't want to scare you but please realise this is very important

pregnancy #4 I started to itch at week 8

Yea ive been having the same problem, my stomach has been itching like crazy for 2 weeks. I've found that calomine lotion or aloe vera can give somewhat temporary relief and that loose clothing really helps as well. I've also found that if I wear anything with synthetic fibres touching my belly that the itching gets much worse. My rash got particularly bad one night when I put vitamin E oil on it. I'm staying away from it until the end of the pregnancy. While my doctor did prescribe a cortisone cream I've decided not to go with it...I may be a overly cautious but I'd rather suffer through the last of my pregnancy without adding more chemicals to my skin...especially anywhere near the baby. My doctor did inform me however, that cream applied to the stomach area will not affect the baby...it's only if you take the medicine orally. So, if you're itching at the beginning of your pregnancy some type of cortisone may be the way to go, if your doctor recommends it.

i had the same thing happen to me around 30wks also and covered the same parts of my body my doc told me its a hormonal rash you get when your pregnant and it does take a few weeks to get rid of it i was told to use a 1% hydrocortizone cream 3 times a day and it worked but you have to stick with it. and it will go away. and your doc is right you want to make sure that you stay cool and try not to over heat your self it will just make the rash worse trust me on that i work in a resturant and stand near 2 ovens that run at about 480 degrees each but drinking a lot of water and useing the cream helped a great deal. 39 wks with no rash now good luck

It sounds like heat rash. Thin sensitive skin is usually the most likely to suffer, thus the rash on your stretch marks.

Stay cool and dry, try not to sweat too much.

As long as you dont have fever you should be just fine. It could also be hives. Some women get hives when their hormones change drastically. As they do with and during pregnancy.
