have a party if you want to.

you are beating yourself up here, it seems.

if your friend's family is kind enough to throw you a party, and you feel it would be fun to celebrate, then do so.

I completely understand how you wish your family would follow the "script" and remember your birthday. (My family completely forgot my 16th birthday. Just completely slipped their minds. So, I know how it feels.)

My family has other redeeming qualities, though. Part of growing up is accepting people for the good things they do for you- and accepting the rest in the name of love.

If you want a party, you should have a party. You should celebrate your birthday in some way that makes you feel special. What you shouldn't do is wait around for other people to make you happy. No "poor me" allowed. Take charge of your own happiness. It's the best gift you can give yourself.

She is right. You must have a really good friend if she and her father are willing to throw you a party. Anyway even if you don't want a huge party then you should at least spend the day with your friend and/or you could invite your closest friends/family over and you can have a small party.

that's really nice of your best friend. ask your parents first if they're planning something. i know it seems like a bummer doing that, but what if they are planning something? if not, just move on and go celebrate with your friend. one thing should be for sure though. party or no party, you should enjoy your birthday. 16 comes only once in a lifetime.

Your friend wants to do this for you out of the goodness of her heart. She and her father want to do something nice for you.
I don't know that it's your parents JOB to give you a party, but I would think for a special milestone like your 16th birthday, they should at least do something.
Be thankful that you have such a good friend.

What do you mean, "at least with her"? Your friend wants to throw you a party! Go for it! It IS possible to have two parties, if your folks want to too. I'd say your folks should not be invited to the one with your friends. They can give you one with the family if they want.

if they want to throw u a party, let them. it will make them feel bad if u say no. they're trying to help. if ur parents wont do it maybe they'll get the message when someone elses parent do it
