I have a 95 Dodge Stratus. Yesterday, I went to the store, and all of my car's electronics were in good working order. When I left the store, I started the car, and most of the electronics were not working. No radio, no lights/blinkers, no fan, but the "airbag" and "safety belt" lights came on. When I came home, I turned the car off, waited 10 seconds, and turned the car on. Everything worked as if nothing bad happened. I was/am creeped out by this, and would like to know what happened and what I can do so this doesn't happen again. Thank you!

I would bet that your ignition key was stuck between the start and run positions. If it happens again, turn the key just a bit back towards you, and see if electronics work. If they do, you may have a sticking ignition switch, which is not returning to the "run" position fully.

When you start the car, (key in the start position) all the electronics are disabled, to allow all the battery power to be used to turn the engine. If the switch does not fully return to the "run" position, the electronics can remain disabled!

Sounds to me like somebody may have tried to break into the system while you were in the store. Unless, it could be a bad battery connection. Check your battery terminal. Check see if there's corrosion between the terminal and battery. Also, check the connection at the terminal and the battery cable. Sometimes corrosion will actually work it's way up the wire. If it has then there should be some green powder looking substance on the wire. If that has happened then replace the cable. That's the only thing I could see that could possibly be wrong.

Thats a head scratcher... your ignition switch might be starting to go out. Cars tend to act funky when the ignition switch starts to go out. You may have had a bad boot on your computer control system. Its hard to say seeing as how it didnt do it again.

Check your ignition switch. I have had this same problem on 98-99 Intrepids and 00 Dodge pickups and vans.

Hi,

Please check you battery connections and r u having a bunch of keys along with your car keys.If so remove it and use only the car key. Please DONT attach the car key in a bunch of keys,as this will affect the ignition switch badly in the longer run.
