i own both an ipod video and a zune media player.
and i can say the zune is a better made product. with much better sound quality then the ipod video as the test run by C-Net.com proved. More solid and durabile then the ipod video. the screen is much bigger which makes it better for movies then the ipod video. the pictures look better on the zune and it has a landscape mode so you can see your pictures in full screen. the battery life is the same as ipod videos and plays videos an hour longer the the ipod video. the only complaint i have with the zune is its marketplace and is pretty much why it isn't selling well it is just to slow and no videos offered on it make it worst.

Zune
Bigger screen
Better Audio quality then ipod's (Cnet.com tested)
Pictures look amazing and bigger on the zune
Cheaper then iPod
More Durable then iPod
Radio
Sexy 2 color effect
Feels good in your hand
Size is not that big when compared to an iPod video's
Weights the about the same as iPod video

i think most of the people who don't like the zune have never really owned or used one, now don;t get me wrong some people may have had bad experiences with one and hated it ever since and every one has diff opinions, but with me i fell in love with my zune when i 1st purchased it and i used to love iPod's so much thinking they were the best, but now i use my ipod's as extra media storage for my computer.

i have 3 ipods and one zune and for this being microsofts first mp3 player it blows all three out of the water a very well though device.

I've owned both. I took two zunes back because they both had problems. I only needed one ipod and it has worked ever since. I am neither a fanboy of apple or microsoft. I am simply a consumer that knows quality.

The zune's problems that prevent it from being reliable and fun:
1. The software. It's AWFUL! Syncing problems galore!
2. Device's battery life. Even if I use settings to conserve battery life, I only get about 6 hours
3. Screen. Sure it's bigger, but it has the same resolution as an ipod. This means that your videos, album art, and pics will be fuzzy
4. Wireless Sharing. Never found anyone else with a zune to share with!

I think the main problem is the software. That was enough for me. I personally dont think the zune offers much (with the exception of a radio) that would make ipod users switch to the zune

My advice: I'd say go for an ipod, but i have a better idea:
* Go to a store that sells each one
* Make sure you can take the device back w/o any hassle (i.e. Liberal Return Policies)
* Since you are curious about the zune, buy one and spend a week with it
* If you like it, great. If you don't, be like me and take it back for an ipod

I hope I helped you out =)

Zune.
have both an ipod video and zune and i take the Zune with me more then the ipod video. the longer battery life when watching movies, the bigger screen, and the better audio quality is why i think its a better brand.

but it does have alot of bad press from mostly apple fans who never hav had a zune or held a zune.

Apple has made its path through the years. The Microsoft Zune is too young; wait may be 1 or 2 more years before buying one !

:)

iPod.

I would go with Zune because Microsoft isn't all greedy like apple, and I'm sure their software for the Zune is a whole lot easier than Itunes. I went with the Ipod because everyone has them, so I figured they're good.. but now I'm wishing I would've went with the Zune. Plus, it has a bigger screen.

Definately ipod. I love mine. But I have never tried to use a zune or anything. The only thing bad about an ipod is it gets scartched easily and you have to charge it a lot. But other thn that I love ipods.

I have a nano and can't say anything bad about it. Get either of the two. They both play music just fine.
