I work at Wendy's now, and I just started orientation today. My manager gave me my schedule, but it's all over the place. Sometimes I work in the morning for 4 hours, or morning to night for 9 hours. Anyone used to work or work at a fast food restaurant currently that knows about this? I just want to know if these hours will always be like this or if I will get certain hours only. I have to wait until Monday to ask, so I rather just ask here now.

I worked at Wendy's 20 years ago and the hours were scheduled all over the place.

The reason is to test you to see how good you are and what your skill set is. They want to see if you are good during morning rush, lunch rush and dinner rush. Will you be good at dining room duty (everyone does it), drive through, making the food or the coveted register position. Sometimes they may have you be a "pusher" - working directly behind the the counter people and assisting them and drive-thru in getting the food out.

Once the manager sees how well you perform they will be sure to put you in a position that will enhance them.

I would not think that your hours will change in the next few weeks unless you are an A+ performer at which time most managers would give you your choice of hours.

Good Luck!

It will probably be all over the place especially if you said your schedule is open. They aren't testing you like it was stated in another answer. It happens because whoever is making the schedule has to work around many other peoples schedule. They will probably never schedule you over time or too many hours. It just has to be balanced out. If you do prove useful during busier times they will probably schedule you during those times. The best thing to do is let yuor manager know when you can't work. If you want a certain day off during the week, like Saturday or Sunday make something up that you have to do like a class or team thing or church.

I was a mngr. at Wendy's years ago. The new people get scheduled all over the place, and wherever I could fit them in. At first they filled in shifts, and eventually I had them learn every job in the store, so that you would become a more flexible employee. the more things that you can do, the more hours you can get. good luck!

Yeah, your hours will be crazy for a while until they figure out where to put you. I work in pizza and I have a set schedule now, but it took a year to get there.

Your schedule will most likely change from day to day, and from week to week. After you are there awhile, you could request the hours you want, but they might not give them to you.

Always like that unless you go back to school in the fall and ask them to put you on weeknights and weekends only.
They always prefer you to be the "flexible" one.
