Some of the people on her are correct and hilarius too! But all fun aside i lived in central florida for 5 years during hurricanes frances ,jean, ivan, and charlie they doo this for a few reasons 1) it does keep the roof from making noises when it,s windy becuase most mobile home roofs are only screwed together at the edges to prevent leakage.@2) it helps cushion any branches if they fall on it. But number 1 is most likely, what they dont understand is that there creating valleys in the roof when doing this and causeing water to lay there that will eventually rust it out causeing it to leak. There,s alot of other reasons though and im sure it,s a good seat to sit on when drinking beer and wiskey and it,s a whole lot closer to the maker when they dont come down. "know what i mean verne".........sorry had to slip that in.

The rubber tires look really cool when they go up in a tornado.
Besides, there isn't enough room to store them under the mobile home because that is where the pigs and chickens are living.

They are poor folks, used tires are free and serve the purpose.

Many mobile home do not have a good foundation because owners do not have the money to put together one before set the trailer home on it.

Adding weight on top of the mobile home, helps balance the weights, so when they walk in side, the structure will not rock or sway as much.

This is just like you insert empty book match under the leg of the table in the restaurant so it will stop clinking.

When the metal roof gets hot it will make all kinds of noises. The tires on the roof will weight it down to stop the unwanted noises.

Actually since many mobile homes are out in the open, tires are put on the roof to hopefully keep the roof from blowing off in strong winds!!!!

Good question! But if it is to help from a tornado, how is a tire going to divert the winds? or even hold a house down? hmmmmmm

Most the homes I have seen, the tires are holding down the plastic sheeting used to cover up leaks.

To hold the sorry roof on. Else the wind makes the tin rattle and pop loose and then leak.
