I see this here all the time. Barry Bonds is about to break one of our 'sacred records'. What in the devil is sacred about a record? Joe Dimaggio himself said that after 50 years, he was satisfied with his record holding and hoped someone would beat it. Isn't it going a little far to consider baseball records 'sacred'?

It's just a word people throw around to glorify records. Really is not necessary.

I'm not sure why "they" use the word "sacred", but I believe they are referring to one of the many baseball records that "everyone" knows. Like Joe D hitting in 56 straight and Maris' 61HRs.

Sacred record is a hard record to break that has been held for many years. ie AArons homerun record. 30 years+/-
