when doing a search on google, yahoo, whatever, i get redirected to other sites that aren't even related to what i am searching for. or to something that is similar, but an ad. please help.

Sounds like you have spyware.
If I were you, I would avail myself of the free trials of some really good anti-spyware programs such as CounterSpy. It is far more powerful than any free software out there.
Try their free 15 day trial of the full system and see what it picks up.

It cannot hurt to try and unlike anti-virus programs, you can run more than one anti-spyware program on your computer.

get McAfee or a free anti-virus program like "AVG free edition" and get that dang virus off your pc.

You have adware on your computer, google programs that block adware, download them.
