My alternator recently went bad and when it did my fuel gauge jumped over or went around the little plastic tick to keep it in place is there any way to fix it with out taking it to a shop?

most all instrument clusters can be taken out and the clear plastic cover separated from the cluster assembly. if you do this take extra care when pulling the needle over the plastic peg. it's not too hard of a job to do. or you can try to find a vehicle with around the same mileage and swap clusters over. you might have trouble re-selling the vehicle though due to not having accurate mileage shown.

Not unless you know how to pull your instrument cluster out. My suggestion, go to a junk yard and buy a new cluster and then just replace the gauge. But this all depends on my first statement
