My computer repair told us that you can submerge an entire computer in water and it will still work. But you just have to make sure everything is BONE dry before attempting to fire it up. That means take everything apart and let sit for about a month.

In the case of an Ipod I would say stop attemping to turn it on. Take battery out. take the screws out and open up the case and just let it set and dry.

If this fails you probably shorted it with the water, you should have a warranty or something.

dont let it dry before you soak it in a high percentage rubbing alcohol +70% and soak it in that for a while then let it dry out for like 3 days and if you want to do a good job, take it apart and scrub it with a toothbrush and alcohol
i know from personal exp with many phones and pda's
p.s. use alcohol because it will replace the water and it dries faster and doesnt leave residue
