A decent video of two desert tortoises courting and mating is neither funny nor sick. It is simple biology and actually fascinating if you understand what is really happening there.
Considering how much of their habitat we have destroyed, it is amazing there are enough of them to reproduce.
Did you know, for example, that when road makers find a tortoise burrow they are supposed to report it and avoid it- but instead they usually just buy a right to pave over it and trap the tortoise(s) in it while they are alive?
