I was on Depo shots for a bit more than a year, I did gain some weight initially, but I lost all of it and then some because I was stressed to the max and moving more than I had before because of a new job. So I am not sure whether the weight loss is because of the job or because of the body getting used to the Depo. I think I gained weight not only because of the Depo but also because I was with a man and had started to eat what he ate (and as much as he ate!!!)

I need to add that I got off Depo because when I went on it, I had been recommended to wait for a period in between the shots. That worked well for the first three times, but before the fourth time, it took a month for my period to return. When that finished, it took more than six months for my period to return. It played havoc with my hormones. And I wasn't sure whether the Depo was actually still working during that six months or whether I was unprotected - in which case I still needed to use other forms of contraception - almost a waste of taking Depo in the first place!

In answer to I heart u's comment about stretch marks - you can also get them if you suddenly GAIN weight - your skin can't stretch as fast as the body so it causes stretch marks. They do fade to fine silvery lines after a while, but never totally go away. Although there are creams on the market for stretch marks, it has been found that they are a complete waste of your money. SO all you can do is wait for them to fade by themselves.

Try not to worry about the weight gain. Follow a sensible eating plan and do some exercise, as you had been before and you should see a slimmer you.

Good luck

No it is not true, you could gain throughout your entire time of having the shot.

I was on it for four years and would never EVER recommend it to anyone. You are experiencing just one of many negative horrible side affects of the shot.

Google "depo provera lawsuit" and check out the reviews on http://www.rateitall.com

Since you knew the risks of weight gain, you should have taken that into consideration. When I got the shot, I knew that alot of women gained weight. So I started exercising and eating healthier and I havent gained a pound.
Stretch marks are a sign of losing weight, so you have gained weight therefore how can you get stretch marks?

you will not lose weight while on depo. my doctor told me that it makes your body "think" your pregnant (gaining in stomach...) you should exercise and eat right. I was also informed that it has been proven that it causes osteoporosis if you are on it longer than 2 years

Please, whatever you do, GET OFF OF IT! It can seriously mess your hormones and period up.
