I Just recently purchased a Comstar 16x16 dvd writer and it comes with Nero. But nero doesnt let me copy movies b/c of copyrights. And all of the downloads that i can find on the internet are just trials, so i need something i can keep on my computer , and not just for 5 days or something.

did your Nero software come with the DVD burner? if not it will not allow you to copy movies unless it was bundled with your burner, And there are other programs you can get to burn DVDs but unless you are backing up your own you can go to the slammer and pay $250.00 in fines for piroting and they track everything you do NOW days. You can however use Nero to burn an image that is the same as copying the DVD and it will work on most computers and DVD players but it does not infringe on the copyright laws the same way as doing a straight exact copy/

You should have done your research first in Yahoo Answers before asking this FAQ - (frequently asked question)!

Anyhow here it goes again - commercial DVD titles are often encrypted, which prevents you from either copying them to your hard drive, or if you manage to do so, being able to play the resulting files.

So you need a decrypting software to be able to copy a DVD to your hard drive. If you own your copy of a movie you are legally entitled to make a backup copy.

The easiest software to use is DVD Shrink. It's called Shrink because commercial DVD are published on 8gig disks and need to be recompressed to fit the domestic 4.7gig DVD disks.

Copyright is something you need to take care of before copying DVD's. If the DVD's are your personal videos than it doesnt matter.

you can try DVD Decrypter software...

You should be able to use Nero, it's just a bit complicated. I believe you need to know exactly which safefty/anti=piracy software was used to make the origional DVD.
