If it has red dots in his hands and head it can be a Red-Foot tortoise most likely a dwarf.
Here is a picture of it http://www.thecreaturefeature.co.uk/resources/Cherry.jpg

If it is this one, dont release it back to the wild because it is native to the rain forest and most likely you dont live there.
Instead give it to a petco for 2 reasons
1) Its shell is cracked and this can turn into an infection which will cause him to die or you will have to pay for expensive surgery.
2) you can get up to $200 dollars for it at petco, if you keep it you will spend $400+ to give it a proper humid home.
If its not a red-foot tortoise, then sorry i wasted your time :]
It's most likely a box turtle and those are less expensive.

Well, first you should try to figure out what kind of turtle you have, as that will determine better how to care for it. Since you have Internet I would search under turtle species in your area. Turtles can be omnivorous, eating both meat and vegetation. So, until you learn more about this turtle, I would put out a variety-maybe some lettuce, chopped up fruit, and some dry cat or dog food just for the time being. As for where to keep it for overnight a deep carboard box should keep him contained. The box should allow the turtle plenty of air just a barrier that keeps him from getting loose in the house. Tomorrow you should make some calls to pet stores that specialize or atleast sell reptiles to find out more advise. If you're are going to keep this turtle it needs a proper environment that is as close to it's natural habitat as possible. Also, feeding the right diet will ensure his health, as it gets the necessary vitamins and minerals turtles need. Oh, and make sure to wash your hands really well after handling it, turtles can carry salmonella.

Describe the turtle please, but if it's just a normal turtle/tortoise it will eat almost any fruits and vegetables, except for slider turtles (they can eat small goldfish) most turtles are vegetarians. i would buy a 10 gallon tank at a pet store for 10 dollars, unless you are keeping it from a small child or dog or cat you shouldnt need a lid so it would only be ten buck but with a screen lid its about 17 plus tax. I dont know what type of subsrate to use since i dont know what kind it is but if its a tortoise it dosnt really matter as long as its not full of water and only has a water dish. You can also but turtle food at the pet store
Hope this helped a little.

First it would greatly depend on whether this is a land or water turtle. If it is a water turtle first make sure you aren't entertaining taming a snapping turtle. Next consider water turtles especially carry certain diseases so weight the benefits. What is likely best for both of you is find a nature habitat and set it free and devote your energy towards a loving puppy from your local shelter...now saving a life from there is a very rewarding experience as is setting a wild creature free to life it's life as intended

I got a rubbermaid box to put my turtle in. She loves to eat strawberries, banannas, pineapples ect. I also give her leftover fish. Like salmon halibut and shrimp. Also be sure there is a big bowl of clean water, pleanty of dirt and leaves. Try to make the cage like the environment that you live in. Lettuce is also a good food, but not iceberg only romaine! It also depends on what kind of turtle she/he is. I have a box turtle and found this site to be great! http://www.turtlepuddle.org/american/boxcare.html

You need to provide water (best place in the tub). Don't fill it completely up, but so it can get to the water and then completely be out of water. I had a water turtle and it only ate once a day. You should be ok for a day until they open tomorrow to get some food. Good Luck! I loved my turtle!

Please release it back to the wild. Keeping him will cause to much stress and most wild caught pets die soon after being captured. If you really want a turtle then do all the research you can and find out what kind you want. Know what it eats and needs then buy one. They end up costing alot more then most people think. They have tons of requirments. The chances are that I wont be able to convince you to release it so if you MUST keep him then find out what kind it is and then check out these sites. (YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE TYPE OF TURTLE FIRST!)

Sounds like a Box Turtle.
Imagine for a minute that you are lost and a strange alien giant finds you. What do you want the giant to do? Put you in a glass box, or smile at you and let you go on with your life?

i have a tortoise, she loves all fruits and vegetables. make sure anything you give your turtle is fresh and dont dry the food off before giving it to the turtle because its their only water source.
