George W. Bush is acting more and more like a king anyway. Why not declare the U.S. a constitutional monarchy and limit his powers?

A RECTANGLE CURVE: Why would a monarchy suck? I live in one (Canada). We get universal health care!

KATE J: You're not taking into account tourism dollars! Just look at the Royal Family in England--massive tourist attraction and staple of tabloid newspapers! If Dubya was King, think of how entertaining it would be to have him attend state events and receive visitors. Plus, if the Bush's follow the precedence of European monarchs, imagine all the fun that royal inbreeding would result in. A president with three eyes and a two horns growing out of his forehead with no ability to communicate coherently in any language!

SOCRATES: Ssssh! Don't talk about medieval monarchies! Medieval lords had something called droit de seigneur--the right to deflower all the virgins on an estate. You'd never get rid of him. On the bright side, death by exhaustion would be a distinct possibility! Do you think Dick Cheyney still uses his "first name"? Maybe it would work for him too (especially with a bad heart)!

I don't think Bush has (or ever had) any interest in a constitutional monarchy like Canada's or England's. He and his posse have been going for the real Medieval thing, and that does suck. Limiting his powers has been the challenge since 2001.

Our founding fathers fought a war to rid this nation of being ruled by a monarchy, and many of them sacrificed everything they had to do so including their fortunes and lives. Further the father of this nation George Washington turned down a chance to be king. Since that time we have developed a Constitution that does not have a monarch mentioned anywhere. If we do as you propose then you are asking that everything our founding fathers went through and the sacrifices that every Soldier, sailor, Airman, Marine, and Coast guardsman have made for this nation for over 200 years should be for nothing. I say no to that. America is at its heart an Idea, of freedom which is best summed in the articles, and Amendments of Constitution, which allows no room for a monarch and I for one will fight to oppose any threat to that Idea:
I (name) do solemnly swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies both foreign and domestic.

King George would disagree that there isnt a monarchy in the U.S. However,..we left Europe to get away from constitutional monarchies.

Monarchies are obsolete. Even China is a democracy (although they won't admit it). Because this is a democracy, Bush only has a maximum of 1 year and 6 months remaining in his term of office. After that he cannot hurt you.

The answer isn't to give Bush what he wants - the solution is to end the Bush regime and move on to someone who actually cares about preserving our democracy, Constitution and The Bill of Rights.
