Expressions like "Yo", and "Forget you", as well as "talking with the hands" comes from Italians!
So-called gang styles, like wearing the hat on backward, chain-locks around the neck, and pulling a pant leg up on one side, were invented by bicycle riders. To keep their hats from blowing off, having to keep from unlocking and locking thier locks, and getting grease on, and their pant leg in the chain, respectively!
When will you realize you cannot find self-respect with outside things. Like clothes and the fronts people put on? It has to be done on the inside. By giving Love and Respect to Others!

Congradulations.... You've just supported what many of us have been saying all along- that none of the above (among other things) are "black".

Good grief!

Forgive me if I have misconstrued, but if white people wish to act black, and black people wish to act white, what on earth is the problem?

Surely, if we bring in behaviour that we have learned from other cultures because it fits our needs and allows us to express ourselves, this can only be of benefit.

OK. I'm English born, with Irish and a bit of Jewish ethnicity, and I'm white. However, my number one priority is that I am Human. Being Human links you up with the whole of the rest of the Human world.

There are elements of culture that no-one who has not been part of that culture can fully understand. For example, I come from what was the Industrial North of England - collieries, shipyards, steelworks, and nobody who was not there when the industries were closing, the pubs were changing or closing, andnpeople were leaving, can have a grasp of one iota of how we felt. But then, I can have no grasp of how a black person in Brixton felt during 'Swamp 82'.

These events are past, and, although they live on in folk-memory, I feel that we have reached a stage in the development of this country (UK) that we respect each other. If we are borrowing from each others vernacular, this must surely lead to increased understanding between the racial groups that make up the UK. This last is positive.

That is a mean a r s e d bit of contributory poetry man. I like it ! I was in Milan and Florence recently and it is true the Italians are signal and telegraph communicators all right ! A lot of counter cultures are pieced together from mainstream former trends, lores ensigns and attitudes. I'm kind of OK with most of that. Anyway its good to see a bit of flavour and some diverse observation on this site, so nice one !

The whole "acting black" as it has become to be known is just a manifestation of ignorance and shame. If society held these youngsters to a standard rather than the BS line of " they arent good enough" " or they cant do any better" then they would rise to the challenge.

Sadly some people of all races think they have a right to respect. They do not, it is a privilege bestowed upon them by strangers and earned from friends and colleagues.

When people stop obsessing over race, the world will be a better place. When people educate themselves, they will learn that what they've been taught needs to be unlearned. People who give into racism are slaves of their own hate.

The majority of today's teenagers act like that any way. Because that behaviour was started by blacks, it doesn't mean every one who is doing it is trying to act black. Just see it as part of today's youth culture.

It seems to me that the "acting black" you describe is actually more like the behavior of any gang culture regardless of their colour. It could probably describe about 50% of todays teenagers.
