Raccoons are wild animals and wild animals should not be kept as pets.

They carry diseases that can be spread to other animals and humans such as leptospirosis, rabies, distemper, intestinal parasites like baylisascaris procyonis that can migrate to your eyeball and cause blindness, migrate to you brain or migrate to your organs and kill you.

Raccoons are wild animals and should NOT be a pet - ever. They're also quite dangerous with very sharp claws and teeth.

If you bring a raccoon into your house, the raccoon will probably outlive you ;)

I've taken care of a few orphaned raccoon kits until they were old enough to be released.

They are not pets. They are wild, they smell, they never are truly gentle - they will not hesitate to bite you and males in particular can get very aggressive once they come into sexual maturity, though both sexes are prone to it. They get into everything, are truly destructive, and will climb anything and everything. Nothing is truly secure from them: they are HIGHLY intelligent animals with dexterous paws, and they WILL get into things they want into.

They are very cute, but do not get one as a pet. They are wild animals, and not meant to be kept as pets.

A raccoon attacked my Yorkie dog once.
I had a friend who had a raccoon for a pet but when the
raccoon became an adult, she became mean and bit
and scratched my friend all up. My friend gave her to
a wildlife sanctuary.

If you get a domesticated raccoon you have to admit they are cut, but you do need to dedicate ALOT of time for on you will need locks for your refrigerator, and cabinets, you will also need a small room or VERY LARGE space for it to Ive in with lots of toys it can chew and scratch up, and lots more... But i have to admit they are one of the best pets Ive ever had.... choose carefully

I,ve had two. The hardest thing was after they were grown they got pretty wild. Overall i would pass. I,ve had a bobcat from Virginia, a flying squirrel from Ohio, and several other species. You need a permit in Ohio for a wild animal. If you aren,t equippedto keep them then definately pass.
