1. You're wealthy and don't like taxes
2. You're bigoted and don't want social programs to help minorities and the needy
3. You want everyone to abide by your personal sense of religious morality
I'm glad you only asked for three, because since the Reagan years, those are the only three reasons that make any sense. Didn't used to be that way.

1. You believe in the American spirit and the American dream. You believe that a limited government that will not overtax you or trap you with red-tape will provide you with the best opportunities to succeed with your own talents. You do not believe that government hand-outs is the answer, but you seek to empower everyone to take advantage of the plethora of economic opportunities for self-betterment that exist.
2. You believe in a society that protects family values. You believe elective abortion on demand for personal convenience is not the answer for pre-marital promiscuity. You believe that the strength of America resides within the four walls of the American home. You seek to help strengthen and protect families.
3. You believe in protecting our country. Preventing a nuclear explosion is more important than winning a few votes. You would rather save a million American lives than be too scared of offending a few people along the way.

There is no reason to be a republican. There is no reason to be any political party. The terms republican and democrat describes a set of beliefs, not benefits for being either.
I consider myself republican, yet I have some liberal beliefs. I am no Democrat because I do not believe in their points of view on many topics.
While I do not believe in some of the republican points of view, the number of things I don't believe in are less than the democrats.
Quite simple really...

Republicans have a cohesive philosphy, and therefore have optimism for the future. They aren't swatting blindly in the dark like Democrats, who then get frustrated when nothing works. Republicans aren't cynics who think America can't help make things better for ourselves and the world.
Democrats are the ultimate cynics. All you hear them talk about is how bad things are, (without ever giving a plan to solve the problem; they just nitpick at the conservatives). Cynics don't think America can help improve the world. They don't think we can spread the blessings of democracy (unlike the previous generation, who spread it in Europe and Japan). Here is what Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert had to say about cynicism:
"Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don't learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying "yes" begins things. Saying "yes" is how things grow."
With this in mind, the top three reasons to be a Republican are:
1) You don't believe America is evil, you believe it is the greatest source for good in the world. When Ronald Reagan spoke of America as "a shining city on a hill", you understood what he meant.
2) Republicans don't whine about problems, they create solutions guaranteed to produce results, such as the No Child Left Behind Act. For once, if schools aren't doing their jobs, they are held accountable. Nothing works better than this.
3) We paid attention when Margaret Thatcher said, "The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples' money to spend."

1. We believe in America and will fight ANYWHERE to protect it, when necessary!
2. We believe an individual should be able to keep the money they earn, the land they buy, etc... If you don't have it go work for it! The Constituion insures the right to Life, Liberty and the PURSUIT of Happiness - it doesn't GUARANTEE it!
3. Democrats favor heavy taxes to support those who choose not to support themselves. As a working middle-class single mom, I choose to keep what I earn and put it to my advantage. It's called a work ethic people!!
**As a footnote - I'm also incredibly weary of hearing "Constituional Rights" advocated for illeagal aliens. An individual who is NOT a LEGAL CITIZEN of the U.S. has NO rights under our Constituion. They do have the right to be treated humanely though (example: being given food, water, shelter) until arrangements can be made to see them safely back to their country. Legal immigration - right on - that's how it should work - ILLEGAL immigration - no way. This seriously needs to be addressed once Congress can settle down and ALL of them pull their heads out!

I'm a Republican Because...
I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

1. Social Security is desperately in need of reform, but Dems are afraid to touch it; Republicans are more open to the possibility (though there are certainly plenty of weak knees on this subject in the GOP, too).
2. Republicans are much more realistic about the Arab/Israeli conflict -- the Dems want to put never-ending energy and resources into the futile "peace process"; many in the GOP recognize that much of the Arab world and its leadership just aren't interested in peace with Israel.
3. Republicans are now the only party talking about meaningful, potentially constructive education reforms. The Dems are in bed with the teachers' unions. (It's a threesome, because there are two major unions.) If you're concerned at all about education in America, which you should be, the GOP is a much better bet to deliver reform, at both the state and national levels.

Morality, Responsibility, Realism.Republicans make an attempt to solve problems instead of like the democrats, running from problems by claiming they don't exist because people should be allowed to do whatever they want no matter how immoral it is or how much infringes on others rights.

The top three reasons to be a Republican...
1.) We don't hate people like the liberals do. See this post for examples. Conservatives don't allow other conservatives to hate.
2.) Wherever liberalism is tried, it fails. Gun control has increased crime rates in London. Anti-police activism increases crime rates. Higher taxes lower government revenues because of slower economic growth. And so on.
3.) Conservatives allow the freedom of speech. Liberals do not. If you contradict their opinions, they hurl "racist!" at you until you leave.
