why do girls wait to use a tampon?

Fear, bad information, and some people just prefer pads. They're not harmful, but they can be uncomfortable your first time.

They are probably just scared to use them. A girl's body is physically ready for them the day they 1st get it. Tampons are only harmful if you leave them in longer than 8 hours because it can lead to Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), but TSS is VERY RARE.

There is an extremely small risk with tampons called toxic shock syndrome. Your mainly at risk if you leave it in too long or are using a larger one than is necessary. Otherwise your good. And by the way using one has no effect on your virginity contrary to earlier statements.

Because they are afraid it might hurt to insert it. Some might be afraid they will get it in and not be able to remove it. Others may feel it might not be absorbent enough, and they don't want to be embarrassed by an unwelcome surprise. Some use both a tampon and a pad to be totally protected.

hmm......i would say being scared and all becuase you have to insert it inside your body and it is painful at first but it will go away once your body gets adjsuted to useing them, and some peoples parents are jsut misinformed or some have religious issues and culture differences. there is nothing wrong with them, infact they are the only thing you can use when you go swimming that i know of!! perhaps since we got all these reality shows on inventions perhaps they will onday come up with a better method to acomodate us women in that respect ...lol!!! but seriously, if you put it in wrong or dont know how to do it, it can be painful and posibley hurt you so ...just talk to you mom or aunt, older sis or teacher, or some one you can feel comfortable talking to about this kind of issue. theres nothing wrong its a part of life we all have gone through it !!! trust me you will be fine ive worn them since i became a young woman and have lived through every situation ...lol ...im 24 so....agin, you may find you like them or you dont like them its all about what you feel more comfortbale with!!!! and go get yourself come choclate , always helps me out when mother nature decideds to come visit !!!! ;) and just becareful to get the lowest absorebency due to toxic shock snydrome also known as TSS, its jsut a safety percaution, and nothing to really worry about , but you do need to be educated about it!! and agin some some people it just takes them a while to figure out what works best for them theres plenty of brands on the market to choose from, so wether you stick with pads or go with tampons, or both i tend to use both depending on what i need !! you will be fine!! have a good weekend!!!

theres no side effects from not waiting except better protection
i guess b/c of TSS, its SO RARE, u should be more scared to get in a car cuz urr more likely to die from an accident then dying from a tampon

some wait simply just because they are not ready. the only way they can be harmful is if you leave it in longer then you are supposed to you can get TSS but it is rare.

not at all!! i use them all the time..in fact i just used one 2day! it's kinda akward and weird at first...but then it becomes second nature! u just have 2 make sure ur putting it in correctly otherwise it will hurt! and use tampax pearl..those are the best and easiest 2 u!!! believe me i kno!!! good luck!

and DONT worry about losing ur virginity!!! u can't with a tampon...the only way u can lose it is if u have sex!!
