Just read Northangar Abbey, which was written in about 1807, it mentions baseball, that alone predats when the americans claim to have invented it.

Also it seems that the game had been played for hundreds of tears in England, and was taken over when the brits settled north america.

Of course it came from England.

Over here we call it Rounders and it's played by kids at school - which is about the correct level for a very silly game.

Baseball originates from cricket or that silly game for kids called rounders. Baseball is however anything but silly and just for kids. If you think it is sooo easy, I would like for you to take a 95 mph fastball up and in. Also, recently a coach got killed at a baseball game after being hit in the head standing at the first base coaches box about 90 feet from home plate. Hardly a game I for kids or sissies!

Oh yeah? I read the Russians claimed they invented baseball too. The Soviets made this claim during the Cold War.

There isn't any game quite like baseball, so I'll stick to the Abner Doubleday story for now, even if it isn't true.

A Canadian invented Basketball, but yet the Canucks like hockey more. I don't know who invented hockey. Probably was a Jamaican.

The history remains gloriously murky, but it seems obvious that cricket led to rounders led to baseball. It was just a matter of trial and error to get to the full-blown sport of baseball as we sort of know it in the late 19th century.

Of course the Americans didn't invent it, our school girls have been playing it for ages. We just call it rounders. You'll be telling me you invented basketball next. Our school girls have been playing that for yonks too, they just call it netball.

Phew not American, lucky.
