this is just a question of interest........
would you still hate MCR if you didnt have an image to go with them? do you think their image and personality makes you dislike them?

Do you think you only hate MCR because of the hype made by the annoying kids who say they saved their life, and you want to disassociate yourself with them?
or you think theyre emo(even though they arent) and you want to disassociate yourself with emos?

Would you like MCR if they were an unsigned underground band you stumbled upon and didnt class as emo, that didnt have much publicity?

So do you think, that if you knew nothing about them and just listened to the music instead of embracing the whole black parade thing, you may actually like them.....

i like mcr, im not obsessive etc but i think some people hate them for what they stand for instead of the actual music.
like when you say you hate a band, then hear an unknown song and like it, then find out its the band you said youd never listen to..

I never bought into any 'image'; i like my favourite bands for the music they create. I don't care about MCR's viewpoints on the world, music, society in general, their emotions or anything else - i don't hate them; it's just that i don't like their music. I think it's terrible, guitar pop nonsense, and just another version of what's popular at the minute. i don't hear anything special in their music whatsoever..... but then again....we aren't all meant to like the same things. That would be silly, and would make for a boring world. But no, i don't think that if i knew nothing about them and just heard their songs, that i would like them. I don't like their music. And who cares about that? Nobody should care about what i think of their favourite bands, just as i don't care what others think of the music i listen to. it's a preference thing.

I'm going to try to inject a level-headed response into this arguement. I used to really hate bands like MRC, I still don't like the music, but I'd rather listen to my music than yell at others for listening to theirs. Here are some reasons people don't like them: 1)They do kinda sell out, seriously. By that, I mean so far it appears as if their image is more important than their musical originality and integrity, the same thing with KISS. 2) Their fans (and this is a completely unbiased opinion) are the third most annoying people on Earth. The first is Paparazzi and the second is loud people. MCR fans are (generally speaking) loud, obnoxious, take the band (and themselves) waaay to seriously, and believe that MCR isn't just doing what a bunch of other bands before them have done. 3) They pander to the MTV audience. Unforgivable. 4) Their fans think they are real punk or rock, (or both). 5) Their generation of music so far has not seen any really great bands (that will stand the test of time, maybe MCR will, I don't know) 6) Compared to other modern bands (Rancid, QOTSA, etc), they have little instrumental talent (though they still manage to write decent songs, or good songs (if you're a fan)) 7) They look emo. No explanation needed. 8) As a bassist, I hate it when any band's bassist has little talent, and MCR's bass player does, really suck. (though not as much as Pete Wentz.) I hope this clears things up. MCR is not the best band ever. No band from 1990-2007 can be the best band ever. On the other hand, metal heads and other such music lovers need to grow up, and stop bagging on other people's music. Korn and Slipknot suck, period. If you want rock, listen to AC/DC, or Led Zeppelin, if you want Metal, there's still Slayer, Sabbath, Motorhead, Judas Priest... etc.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and there are some who will criticize it because of the new style of rock music nowadays. Many people will not like Green Day, Blink 182, or Sum 41 and I like those bands. Some people said that those bands aren't good and are commercial garbage but I don't think so because rock music has evolved along the way and nowadays rock music is compared to what it was back then and some people will say that the new rock music sucks because they are still loyal to the old style. I don't think MCR sucks, I think their music is okay, some think it's good, and a few will think it's bad because they either don't like it at all or their stuck in the old 70's and 80's style.

Musically they simply boring and annoying.
But you are right .. it is mainly down to the image and the fans.
The bulk of these people are a group of spoilt brats who envyed the metal scene as it exploded in the early 0'ties. They wanted to be part of the "Misfit" or "Outcast" crowd. Emos represent a generation of people who want to whine and have "issues" when.. really they have nothing be dissaffected by, they just want to be trendy or recognised

Secondly.. one of the previous posts stated that no one forces this music on us... not true..

Despite heavy protest and refusal to buy tickets MCR headlined the first night of this years Download festival.
Despite having the poorest turnout for a headling act in the shows 5 year history (approx half the field)... and leaving the stage 30 minutes too early. The so-called rock media and festival coverage shows hailed them as the biggest highlight.. giving them more coverage than the likes of machine head or Stone Sour who (despite being criminally placed lower on the bill) drew far greater crowds.

I don't like any super famous "rock" band who pose as pop stars. Greenday went exactly the same way, dookie and nimrod, even shenanigans were great albums - American idiot was trash, right about the time they became super famous.

When I first heard I'm not OK I thought it was a great song - and bought 3 cheers for sweet revenge. This was before anyone had heard of them in the UK. Now MCR are über famous and they've sold out to the hype - not to mention the fact that Black Parade is an awful album.

Buuut I guess if people want to listen to rubbish music that's their choice - drum and bass is still popular after all. My main problem with them is the hypocrasy of being 'alternative' and a 'rebel' by listening to the band that EVERYONE UNDER THE SUN listens to. How very daring.

As a musician, I find it offensive that they haven't sung an original word or played an original note in any songs I've heard them perform. Just about every element they have in their sound, from chord structure to engineering has been borrowed from other bands, both current and otherwise.

About the only thing going for them is their image, which, while stereotypical, is well-planned. Though I also find that, while their music is almost entirely note-for-note another's work, they are at least trying to make it a bit more complex in the structural arrangement - too bad they can't seem to break that pitiful 4/4, verese, chorus, verse, chorus.thing with more than a momentary aside.

At least they're not as bad as "the used" or "my cardboard heart."

I dont hate them, i dont really have an opinion

But what annoys me about bands playing this sort of genre of music is the following they lead.

I dont see the enjoyment of them wanting to feed sad, depressing songs to the minds of young children.

I liked their first and second album.
When they released their third album, there was some big hype about them and my interest for them had faded.
