We are moving to a house with a propane heater. My question is: how much will it cost to heat our 2000 square foot home per month, season, etc. I'm also concerned with how far a cf of propane will go. Can I fill up the large tank (about 8 feet long) and expect it to last all winter? Thanks in advance!

There is no average cost. It depends on size of house, insulation and weatherproofing, how high the temp is set, how cold it is outside, other sources of heat or loss of heat in the house.
Contact the nearest supplier and set up a service and delivery agreement with him, to keep you supplied during the heating season. He has to plan ahead to keep all of his customers supplied.

Allot of variable here, how well is your house insulated, what is your climate what do you keep your thermostat on. If in a northern climate I would estimate between $200 and $300 a month during winter for an average and that is conservative from what I have gathered last year from friends. I myself still have coal and go through appoximately 7 ton a year, six of it being between September and March at $200 a ton

My house is 2200 sq. ft. I use 780 gallons of propane a year with the thermostat set at 64 degrees. Lock-in cost for this year was $2.659 or $2106 per season. Natural gas is MUCH cheaper.

Your propane dealer will keep an eye on your tank and fill accordingly. Your question is hard to answer other than generally. Try this web site.

It states that half as much propane is needed as natural gas.

It really depends on your climate and how well the house is insulated. I can tell you that here in Mich a home this size will take 2 or 3 large tanks per winter.
