Blondie, Black Sabbath, Jefferson Airplane, The Guess Who, Rush, The Sweet, The Shocking Blue
yeah I know some of them started in the late 60's, or didn't get big till the 70's but still.

I know this answer is so obvious but I honestly can't think of another band that evolved and grew more during the 1960s than the BEATLES...
listen to their first couple of albums then listen to
Rubber Soul, an amazing Pop album with intelligent lyrics and beautiful vocal harmonies; then check out
Revolver-just a year later and John Lennon's music especially was ground breaking.
The Strawberry Fields/ Penny Lane single in early 1967 sounded like nothing ever heard before...
Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and
Abbey Road were two more brilliant steps forward for THE BAND of the 1960s.

Pink Floyd, they came later in the 60's but the late 60's was when Syd Barrett was at his highest point.
